I have been struggling with when to begin the Sonlight PreK. Do I begin it when “R” is just 3, and “A” is 4? Or do I begin it when “R” is 4, and “A” is 5. Since I plan on incorporating CM with Sonlight, here is my current plan…
Current: Continue with Little Hands to Heaven. This should be completed around “R”'s 3rd birthday in March. This curriculum is solid biblical foundation, with reading from the Bible and children's Bible, character training, some art, some math (counting), letter recognition and sound.
In addition: Physical Activity (martial arts 2x a week for “A”), nature study/walk, read alouds from CM book list, composer study (we play Mozart and Beethoven's more common pieces), artist study (“A” loves to tell people that Vincent Van Gogh cut off his ear.), lifeskills/cooking, Spanish, field trip.
Schedule
Monday: LHTH, Nature Walk, Read Aloud, Spanish
Tuesday: LHTH, Martial Arts, Read Aloud, Spanish, Cooking/Life skill
Wednesday: LHTH, (Composer Study, Read Aloud, Spanish), OR Field Trip
Thursday: LHTH, Martial Arts, Read Aloud, Spanish
Friday: LHTH, Artist Study, Read Aloud, Spanish
March 2007: We will follow Ambleside Online- year 0, for a year, until “R” turns 4.
Teach you Child to Read in 100 Lessons/ The American Schoolhouse Reader
March 2008: Begin Sonlight preK, when “R” is 4, and “A” is 5.5.
Of course, this is bound to change, but I want to get it in writing to keep my thoughts organized. I know God will guide to where He wants us to be.
How you’re doing and what your thoughts are about the direction you think you’ll take. It is very inspiring, not to mention how organized you are. Thanks Leigh!
