Ice Skating

Our local mall has a little skating rink set up over the holidays.  Of course, as a homeschool mom, I wait until all the kids go back to school and we have the rink to ourselves!  My friend, Eun, and her kids, joined us for some winter fun!

Yummy winter dinner…
Recipe might come later.  I am too lazy to type out recipes right now…

I was grocery shopping by myself a few days ago, and needed applesauce.  Finding the applesauce shelves, I looked for the applesauce that was natural, the kind that was just apples and water.  I scanned all the shelves, (this was Winco, so there were many applesauces to choose from).  No natural. Everything had some sort of syrup, sugar, or artificial color or flavor.

A lady passed by with her cart and I glanced down as she passed.  I noticed that someone had dropped one of the applesauce packages and the six individual containers were laying on the floor…

God said to me: “Pick them up.”

I replied: “But I did not drop them.”

God said: “Pick them up.”

I replied: “But, if I pick them up, people will think I dropped them.”

God said: “Pick them up.”

I said: “OK, fiiiine .<rolling eyes>

I squatted down to pick up the containers, and on the bottom , tucked way in the back of the deep shelf, was the natural applesauce I was looking for.

I just started chuckling and had a good laugh with my ‘shopping partner‘.

Homemade Costumes

I love it when the boys create their own costumes.  ‘R’ is Commander Cody and ‘A’ is Commander Rex.  Both are from Star Wars: Clone Wars…

SKI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, even though the slopes have had to make snow due to the fact that there is absolutely NONE, we were able to get up to Sugarbowl for a fun morning of skiing and snowboarding!

We purchased season passes at Sugarbowl, because they give all season pass holders unlimited free lessons.  I was day five into my juice fast and that and 7500 feet to not mix well, so I ended up sitting in the lodge,  breaking the fast, and hoped to be fine for afternoon ski, (I wasn’t.  Hopefully, next time will be a different story.)

We put David and the boys into classes and they all picked right back up where they left off last season!

David, carving it up!

Waiting for the car, apres ski…

Sunrise in our backyard…

My Dad recently emailed me a bunch of cute quotes that kids gave in answer to some questions.  I decided to ask these questions to my boys (ages 7 and 9) and see what they said.  I interviewed each boy separately.

How do you decide who to marry?

R: You see them, then you have a crush on them, then if you know they are a Christian, that’s how you decide to marry them.

A: You know them for a long time and after you do, you just know.  Is this what all the questions are going to be like…Romance?

What is the right age to get married?

R: Like 25 or 20

A: 30

How can a stranger tell if two people are married?

R:  They will look at your left hand and see if you have a ring on.

A: Rings…Mom, this is terrible!

What do you think your mom and dad have in common?

R: They each have a Bible and like it.  They also have a house together.

A: They are both awesome.  They are both really nice, and they are both from Washington.

What do most people do on a date?

R: Go to a fancy dinner, mostly kiss, and then sit by the moon.

A: Eat food.

When is it OK to kiss someone?

R: when you know you are going to get married, go on a date, or if you are married, or at a wedding.

A: I think I’m going to throw up…

Is it better to be single or married?

R: Married, because then you will not be alone, and have someone to talk to.

A: Married, I guess, but I’m single right now and I don’t really care.

How would the world be different if people didn’t get married?

R: Everyone would live alone, be lonely, and not have kids.

A: Everyone would hate each other and the world would be at war.

How would you make a marriage work?

R: Date someone, then propose to them, and never be really angry or treat them badly.

A: Promise you won’t divorce.

The Black Pearl

The boys received some gift cards to Toys R Us for Christmas and used them to buy two very large sets of Legos.  ‘A’ just finished his….The Black Pearl set from ‘The Pirates of the Caribbean’.  It’s an 800+ count, and he did it all by himself!

The aft sail can be lifted, along with the deck.  Below is Captain Jack Sparrow’s cabin…

Today’s Homeschool Theme was ‘Try Something New’ Day!

A few days ago, I asked the boys for ideas of something new they wanted to try or do.  One that ‘A’ suggested was to go to a sporting event.  Technically, when he was about three, he went to an Aquasox game with his Grandpa Al, but he does not really remember it.  We definitely need to add sporting events to the list this year…can I really  root for the Giants and Kings???  Hmmmm…….

Here are the two new things we did today….

We tried Dragonfruit!  Here is what we learned..

AKA, the Pitaya, the Dragonfruit is the fruit of a type of cactus!  Native to central and south America, it is now harvested all over Asia.

Here are the boys trying the dragonfruit.  They both said they loved it.  When I asked them what it tasted like, ‘R’ said that it tasted like watermelon with less flavor.

They ate one, and I juiced one.  It has a delicately sweet flavor.  Something nice to have around again 🙂

The other new thing I introduced them to was a new language….pig latin!  Hey, a kid’s gotta learn some time…

Muesli

While reading the recipes and meal plans for the Daniel Fast, there was a recipe for muesli.  That word took me back about 15 years to when David and I were traveling through Amsterdam, where I first had muesli.  It was delicious, but I never thought to eat it in America.

I made it for breakfast for everyone this morning.  They all loved it!

Ingredients:  Rolled oats, raisins, chopped dates, chopped walnuts, sunflower seeds
This was served  warm with soymilk for David, and almond milk for the boys.
