NINJA!

Woo Hoo!  Boymom representin’!  Would I have chosen to go to the demolition derby had it been date night or mom night out, mmmm, probably not.  But, was it a great night with the boys, YOU BET IT WAS!!

Watching the horse races a little bit before we moved on to the derby…

This year, the demolition derby had not only regular cars, but RV’s as well!

CRASH!

BOOM!

POW!

OUCH!

Intermission between the cars and Rvs

CRUNCH!

SMACK!

OH, THE CARNAGE!

INSANITY!

After the derby, walking the grounds, we enjoyed a fireworks show…

Enjoying the view from the monorail….

Such a FUN night!

Johnny Applestack

As mentioned before…the show, ‘Minute to Win it’ is huge in our house.  Both boys, especially ‘R’, practice the challenges that are on the show, as well as make up some of their own.

One of the challenges on the show is called ‘Johnny Applestack’.  For the show, you have to stack a certain number within one minute.  ‘R’ does not limit himself to time…

Three…

Four…

Five…

Six!!

‘R’ swears he has done seven.  I did not see it, so we have no proof, but I never thought he could do six!  INCREDIBLE!

Science Experiment

We did this a long time ago, but we are using new curriculum and the same experiment popped up again.  The boys counted their breaths, then counted again after running…

Somehow, ‘R’ had less breaths after than before.  If I recall correctly, he did that the last time we did this.  Whatever.

A Chelan Treat

Look what the cat dragged in…

This more little thing was injured but hopefully not mortally.  It was petrified, but we got it to drink a little water before setting it free in the front yard.

I am not sure if this was the same one that returned to us in pieces a week later…along with half a snake and a lizards tail…

A nice perk to what we do for a living is that we get free passes to the CA State Fair.  We also have access to the grounds while it is closed.  This is one of the days when the boys and I got to enjoy the Fair…

We entered the grounds a couple hours before the Fair opened and walked around the livestock exhibits.  We got to watch the exhibitors prepare their animals, washing, feeding, grooming.  We had a nice talk with a woman who showed the boys her goats and talked about the breed and specific characteristics to that breed…

Watching a 4H project that a young woman set up.  It’s a video of her goat giving birth…

Part of the fairgrounds contains a waterpark…

Walking the amusement park before grounds was fun  Here is a shot of my favorite ride.  Looking forward to when the boys are tall enough to ride it with me.  David can’t because of issues with his ears.

This is a picture of a skybridge that creates a quick way to get across the fairground.  They have misters that cool you off from the heat…

A little village was created that educates kids on fire safety.  The kids received a passport and attended a lecture in each cottage.  They received a stamp for each lecture they attended.  If they completed all six lectures, they got to turn the passport in for a bandana.

The first cottage contained a lesson on what was considered a ‘tool’ or a ‘toy’.  They also had a model fully clothed in fireman gear and the boys got to try on the fireman jacket…

The next cottage contained a story that was read about the history of ‘Smoky the Bear’.  He was a little cub caught in a tree during a fire.  We was rescued and treated for burns, and became the iconic symbol for preventing forest fires.

The third cottage taught the boys about the positive effects of fire and its necessity.  We learned about  a type of pine cone that can only release its seeds through fire…

The fourth was a trail path that taught us about responsible camping and waste management…

The fifth cottage taught us about making an escape plan during a fire in the house, and also about the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning.

The last station was a puppet show that re-capped what everyone had learned…
Here’s a picture of the boys wearing their new bandanas!

One of the halls contains my favorite exhibits.  It’s a representation of all the counties in California.  Each county creates its own exhibit to highlight what makes that county special and unique.  One of the counties had a little putt-putt golf course that the boys enjoyed playing on…

This county promotes duck hunting…

This lovely exhibit (not a county) contained animals from all over the world…

They have a fun little activity called ‘Paint a Pony’.  The kids dipped their hands in paint and, well, painted a pony…

We ran into our awesome next door neighbors, Doug and Keri.  They have a precious toddler and a baby.  Here is ‘M’ getting ready to paint…

Shudder…

Thai Pork and Papaya

We served this over brown rice, but if you serve it over couscous, this recipe could be made within 15 minutes. Delicious!

Cooked Brown Rice

1t. olive oil
2t. Bragg’s Liquid Aminos or soy sauce
1/2t. ground ginger
3 cloves garlic, minced
1lb. boneless pork chops, sliced into strips
Juice of 1 lime
1/4c. minced cilantro
1 papaya, peeled, seeded, and cut into cubes

1. Prepare the brown rice or couscous according to package and set aside.

2. In a nonstick skillet, heat the oil and add the liquid aminos (or soy sauce), ginger, and pork and cook until cooked through.
Remove skillet from heat and stir in lime juice and cilantro.

3. Place rice (or couscous) in a bowl and top with pork mixture, papaya chunks, and skillet juices.

New Bikes!

We picked up new bikes for both boys.  ‘A’ was wayyyyyyy overdue for one; we were almost headed into negligence.  We spent a full day researching different bike stores and bikes.  Both boys are thrilled.  These are the official next step with hand brakes and gears!
Our first few rides were just in the cul de sac to get used using brakes and gears.   After a few days of cul de sac practice, we ventured out to the neighborhood.  We have had some terrific rides since, although both boys have had flat tires due to nasty thorns that are on a local tree…

Proud new owner!

Can you tell he’s excited?

Daddy, testing out one of the bikes…

Our home in the background…

Ooops…

…someone decided to drive one of the country club carts over the FOOTBRIDGE and it got stuck…
