‘Children’s Everyday Bible’-Moses and the burning bush

Memory Verse
"Tell your neighbor the truth because we belong to each other." Ephesians 4:25

Read Aloud
We did a ton of read alouds today.  It was just that kind of day…
Mother Goose-"The Girl in the Lane"
Caps for Sale
Little Peewee
Little Quack’s Bedtime
Time for Friends
Kittlen’s First full Moon
Did I Ever Tell you how Lucky You Are?

Language Arts
‘Developing the Early Learner’- I took four pieces of paper and drew a circle, diamond, rectangle, and triangle on each.  I had the boys look at the pieces of paper, close their eyes, and removed one shape.  Each boy had to take turns and tell me which shape I removed.  Both did excellent.

Social Studies
We read about the school jobs in ‘Things People Do’

Character
‘365 Manners’-We read that appetizers are also called hors d’oeuvres and canapes.  We are to only take one or two and that’s it.  Take a napkin too.  If you take something off of a tray, hold it on your napkin for a few seconds before eating it; don’t just pop it in your mouth from the tray.  An appetizer is meant to stimulate the digestive juices, but not satisfy it.

‘Right Choices’-We read about sharing our food and toys to those who do not have any.

Reading
‘A’ read from the reading primer-a page from ‘The Gingerbread Boy’

Social
My friend, Hope, came over with her two kids for a playdate.  ‘J’, boy age 4, and ‘K’, girl age 2?

Lesson 6/14/07

Memory Verse
"Tell your neighbor the truth because we belong to each other."- Ephesians 4:25

Read Aloud
Mother Goose- "Willie Winkie"
"The Mouse Deer’s Wisdom"
Eric Carle’s Animal Animals "Every Insect", and "The Ant"

Language Arts
Developing the Early Learner-Motor/Hand-Eye- The boys had to take a look at a group of faces and a pattern below the face.  They had to find the same face and draw the corresponding pattern beneath it.  The drawings weren’t pretty, but you can tell they knew that the pattern was the correct one.

Science
BB Book of Nature-We read about the sun.  We learned that the sun is millions of miles away.  We need the sun for light and heat.  The sun makes things grow, even things that are underground.  Bats and owls do not like the sun and only come out at night.  We should not stay in the sun to long or we will burn.

Social Studies
‘Things People Do- We learned about all the people that work in a school (principal, assistant principal, teachers, librarian, secretary, custodian.)

Character
‘365 Manners’-We read how to eat difficult foods:
hamburger-cut it in half before eating
french fries-OK to eat with fingers at a fast food restaurant, but in fine dining, you need to use a fork and dip your fries in the catsup.
asparagus-OK to eat with fingers (who knew?), but also OK to eat with fork.  OK to not eat the fibrous part.
Lemon-OK to squirt on fish and into ice tea.  Use you rother hand to deflect any errant squirting.
Bacon-if soft, use a fork.  If crisp, OK to eat with fingers.
Baked potatoes-Cut in half, scoop insides onto plate and eat.  Or, cur in half, and eat from the skin.  It’s OK to eat the skin.

‘Right Choices’- We read that is is wrong to swear and to say the God’s name inappropriately.

Math
Singapore Earlybird 1a-Lesson 16-Today’s lesson focused on more, less, most, least.  We also learned that a cup of water will still be the same amount regardless of the size and shape of the container it is poured into.  We practiced this by taking one cup of water and pouring it into different containers.

Reading
‘A’ read a page fro a reading Primer -The Gingerbread Boy’.  I had ‘R’ parrot a few sentences.

In the Kitchen
While playing outside, the boys were thrilled to discover two ripe huckleberries!

They insisted we make a huckleberry pie.  Here is our attempt at a huckleberry-blueberry meringue!
Making the crust…
Cutting the shortening into the flour..

Rolling out the dough…

piercing the crust…

My attempt at meringue failed miserably, but it still tasted good…

I am the retiring Coordinator for our church’s MOPS group.  The last activity of the group for the year was "a potluck picnic and playdate at a local park" (say that 10 times fast!)  We were blessed with excellent weather (it has rained everyday this week, except this day!) great food, and a fantastic turnout!

Lesson 6/13/07

We ahd Bible study this morning, but they were short childcare, so I served in ‘R’s class today.  We played at a local park after that.

A macaroni and cheese lunch with an apple, and on to class…

Bible
‘Children’s Everyday Bible’- We read about Moses killing an Egyptian and fleeing to Midian, then meeting Jethro and marrying his daughter Zipporah.

Character
365 Manners…We read about the origin of the ‘afternoon tea’ and the difference between the ‘afternoon tea’ and ‘high tea.  In the 1840’s in England, Anna, the 7th Duchess of Bedford began the practice to tie her over from her light and ealy lunch to her late, more substantial dinner.  She invited friends to join her and the ‘afternoon tea’ was invented.  ‘High tea’ is more like a farmhouse supper, with meat and eggs (who knew?).

‘Right Choices’-we read about pride and how it is wrong to think that you are better than others and act that way.

‘A’ read from the Primer- a page from "The Little Red Hen’

Today, we went to Farrel McWhirter Park  in Redmond.  It is an old homestead that is now a park.

The boys had a great time running in the field.  We must have been close to swallows nests, because they were swooping around the boys.  The kids loved playing with them.  The blurry spot obove ‘R’ is a bird…
