LHTH 8/6 Unit 2-Day2

Fingerplay

“Noah's Big Boat”

Bible Study

Read Genesis 7:11-16

The New Bible in Pictures for Little Eyes

Focus: The animals get on the boat

Dramatic Play

We pretended to be different animals getting on the boat: elephants, bees, horses, peacocks, kangaroos, etc.

Letter Activity

The boys fingerpainted the letter “B”.

Bible Activity

There is a picture in the boys Bible that has animals boarding the ark.

First, we counted them all (22).  'A' can count to 22, with a little help around 16.  'R' can count to 11.

I then introduced the concept of counting by 2's,

We named the animals. 'A' can name them all.  'R' can name elephant, cow, monkey, giraffe.  He needed help with zebra, peacock.

I had 'R' name the colors in english, and 'A' name the colors in spanish (he needed help with naranja, verde, negro.  He was able to say azul, blanco, cafe, amarillo)

'R' was able to point out the animals that had spots, but could not pick the ones that had stripes.

'A' could pick out both spots and stripes.

Music

Played “Noah Build a Boat”

P.E./Social

Tricycled around the block.

Read Aloud

The Complete Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

Here is a cute picture from after church today…

Last night, I spent the evening with some friends.  When I returned home, DH was completing dinner with the boys.  I decided to take a bath and he continued to play with the boys, then get them ready for bed.

As I was enjoying my bath, I could hear them all playing with the new “Batman and Superman” toys.  DH was completely immersed in the role-playing of the villains, while the boys were the heroes.

I love it that DH is so good at this type of play.  Not only that, but he enjoys it as well.  Whereas I prefer to do things like reading, and art activities, hiking, etc..  But when it comes to imaginative play, I flounder.

I am so thankful that I have a DH who can feed their imaginations like this.

Math Activity

I traced the boys hands on a page titled, “Number Two”.  They colored their two hands.

Music

P.E./Social

Tricycled around the block.  'A' did the whole block by himself.  'R' is just now beginning to pedal.  DH helped steer a good part, but 'R' pedaled quite a bit.

Festival Season

I took the boys to a local fair/festival.  We enjoyed the parade, fair food, and looked at the booths a bit.  But the real treat of the day was an unlimited pass on the inflatable toys.  The boys spent almost the whole day playing here.  DH might take them back later this evening.

Fingerplay

“Adam and the animals”.  ‘A’ was able to recite is almost perfectly without help from me.  He forgot antelope, but remembered the others.

Bible Story

Bible: Genesis 4:3-10

The New Bible in Pictures for Little Eyes: Story of Cain and Abel

Focus: Cain killed Abel

This was an extremely well-timed lesson.  Earlier today, I witnessed ‘A’ throwing a large rock at ‘R’s feet.  I asked him why he did it and he said that ‘R’ threw bark at him (no evidence of the sort, but could be true).  He was disciplined for his actions and this lesson was appropriate for reinforcement.

Active Exploration

The boys learned that people show their feelings with their face, words, and voice.

We matched our facial expressions, and voices with the words: anger, sleepy, sad, excited.

We looked in the mirror and sang “Row, Row, Row your Boat” using the above emotions.

Focus: Cain’s anger got him into trouble because he killed Abel.

We talked about which emotion is the better emotion to have and which one God prefers us to have.

Letter Activity

I gave each boy a card with the letter ‘A’ on it.  They traced it with their finger.  (I guided ‘R’.)

Focus: Practice the motions ‘A’.

Bible Activity

I had each boy get their stuffed animals.  I then had them yell at them, make mad faces, hit them and throw them on the ground and walk away.  I then had them speak kindly, shake their animals hands and give them a hug.  I then asked which way does God prefer?

We also talked about some things that made us angry and how to handle our anger and the situations.

(‘A’ said his brother made him angry when he hit him.  ‘R’ just said, “I don’t know”.)

Focus: Cain should not have hurt Abel, even when he was mad at him.

Music

Listened to the songs “Cain and Abel”, and “God made the Universe”

Sign Language

New words “land”, “sea”

“Adam and the Animals”.  This time, I just did the actions and “A told the story.

Bible Story

We read Genesis 3:2-6

We also read “The New Bible in Pictures for Little Eyes”

Focus: Adam and Eve disobeyed

“A” was very intrigued at the idea of God taking a rib from Adam and creating Eve.  We palpated our own ribs, then looked up drawings of skeletons that showed ribs.

Dramatic Play

I tied together two belts and created a large “serpent”.  The boys took turns jumping forward, backward, and sideways over the wiggling “snake.”

Focus:  Adam and Eve should have stayed away from the snake.

Letter Activity

The boys had to find all the “A”‘s on the sheet, upper and lower case and color over them.  This was unassisted by me.  “R” found 8/15 and “A” found 11/15.  They also had to draw a line from the upper case “A” to the lower case.

Focus:  The boys eventually should be able to recognize the capital and small ‘A’ in words.

Math Activity

The boys colored a picture of a tree, cut the tree (with assistance), and glued it onto the ‘Number One’ page.  One tree=One

Bible Activity

I asked the boys how they think God feels when they disobey.  ‘A’ said that God would kick them out of their house.  I told him that God would not do that, even though He did do it to Adam and Eve.  He then said that God would be ‘sad’.  I asked him if he thought God would be angry, and ‘A’ responded, “no, just sad.”.

Music

Listened to the songs, “Two Trees”, and “God’s Promise”

P.E/Social

Playdate at a friend’s house (1 year old boy)

‘A’ had his martial arts class today, as well.

“Adam and the Animals”.  We had friends (ages 6 and 2) over today and we got them involved in the activities.  I told the six year old we were going to have some schooltime and he said he did not want to be involved.  But, once he saw what we were doing, he changed his mind.

We looked up the animals on the computer as well.

Bible Story

Read Genesis 1:26-27, 2:7

The New Bible in Picture for Little Eyes

Focus: God made people

Devotional

Read My ABC Bible Verses.  We talked about Proverbs 15:1  “A soft answer turns away wrath.”

We talked about how it is important to use kind words even when someone else is not being kind.

Letter Activity

The boys colored a page with objects beginning with the letter “A”.  They also glued split peas on the “A”.

Bible Activity

We acted out the Bible story and pretended to be God picking up dust from the earth and blowing on it to create “man.”  We then acted out Adam falling asleep and God removing a rib from Adam to create Eve.  We then thanked God for creating us.

Music

Sang “God made the Universe.”  “A” likes to play the recorder while we sing.

Sign Language

New word “sky”

P.E./Social

“Adam and the Animals”.  Quizzed “A” on what each 'A' animal looks like
(see day 1)

Bible Story

Scripture: Read Genesis 2:1

Read from The New bible in Pictures for Little Eyes

Focus: God created all things

Color Recognition

The boys attempted to create color circles.  'A' was able to name every color and he could name three in spanish (azul, amarillo, azul)  'R' could name all the colors except for purple.

Letter Activity

I made a large 'A' out of twine on the floor.  The boys had their stuffed animals (Tigger and Minus) “walk” along the letter.  After their animals did it, they did it themselves.

We talked about how each letter has a name and a sound and practiced the sound for 'a'.

Math Activity

The boys drew “caterpillars” in a box.  Each box has a different number of caterpillars.  We also learned that God made each animal special.

Music

We are learning and listening to: “God Made the Universe”

Sign Language

New words added: “night” “day”

Read Aloud

I read “Adventure with Little Bear” today to the boys.  They decided to try to make space hats out of the cracker boxes, like Little Bear did.  Too bad they were too small, but I am impressed “A” thought to try it.

Fingerplay

“Adam and the Animals”-Helps teach the letter “A” and the animals that begin with the letter “A”.  We looked up pictures of ants, alligators, antelope, anteaters, albatross, and anacondas.

(I learned that the albatross is much larger than I thought.  I also learned that I am still afraid to look at pictures of snakes, especially big ones…)

Bible Story

Read Genesis 1:1-5 from the Bible

Read from “The New Bible for Little Eyes

Key idea: God made the world.

Letter Activity

Look at large flashcard of the letter “A”.  Both boys recognize this letter by sight.

Bible Activity

I had the boys close their eyes and cover them so it was totally dark.  They were to imagine what is was like before God made the world.  They then opened their eyes and each took turns pointing and naming items in the room that they could see.

Music

Played and sang the song, “God made the Universe”

Sign Language

Learned sign for “God” “made” “universe” “you” “me” us” “daughter” “sons”
