I got the new iPhone something something that has a Portrait feature on their camera. A friend of mine has it and I loved how her photos turned out. Here’s a sampling with my two handsome young men.

Alex (Alejucho) is 16 (or almost 16) here
Ryan (RyGuy/RyRy) is 14

Visit with Grandpa

I have been incredibly blessed to have my Grandpa Jerry alive and doing well all these years. He is now in his mid-90’s, still lives on his own. He has a condo in the same building as my aunt and uncle.

I flew up to Seattle to spend a few days with him, as well as visit with my aunt, uncle, and cousins. I stayed on my cousin terry’s boat which is moored right next door to the condos.

The view where Terry is moored.

One of my favorite thing to do with my Grandpa is play cribbage. We were able to play many games together.

Oh, how I love him!

He also shows me a book he had about one of his (it’s either uncle or cousin)…

My aunt let me use her kitchen to make a bunch of freezer meals for him. They are easy heat and eat meals. I wish I were closer to do this for him more often.

An extra bonus was that I got to celebrate “nephew” (Terry’s son) Henry’s 13th birthday!!

Folsom Palladio tree lighting and Bayside Adventure Drive Through Lights…

We put together a women’s day retreat at Bev’s property. The NorCal Camp Fire was raging two hours north of us. The quality of the air degraded substantially through the day. We ended up having to cut the retreat short a little bit. But the day was lovely, with precious women of all ages and season, and a day in the open air barn, with teaching from Bev.

Ragnar Napa 2018

This is it! The moment we have all been waiting/training for. Due to the Santa Rosa fire last year, this race was deferred to this year. We have been planning this for two years.

RAGNAR NAPA

12 person relay race from San Francisco to Napa. Two vans; six runners in each van. A little over 200 miles over two days. Very little sleep. Very little food. A whole lot of fun!

Halloween Week 2018

The boys and I attended a city council session and I spoke as a parent supporting the Coalition for Place Youth in our community. After our turn, we went to leave and a photographer from our local newspaper asked if we would be willing to answer his question about what we are wearing for Halloween…

We bought decorations for Halloween this year….

Auntie Shell came for the week!

Six Flags with friends!

This is an annual conference that student leaders from California attend. Schools nominate student leaders to represent their schools.

The boys and I volunteer for the Coalition for Placer Youth and because of our service, we were invited to attend the conference, all expenses paid. They covered our train trip from Sacramento to Santa Clara, our hotel, meals, conference fee, and even an evening at Paramount’s Great America theme park!

My friend Elyse and I both turned 50 this year. We decided to treat ourselves to a girls “weekend”  (we went midweek) to Portland. She had never been to Portland and I love playing tourist and doing my part to help keep Portland “weird”.

I planned on us to spend two nights at one of my favorite places, McMeniman’s Edgefield.

Upon arrival, however, the weather was so magnificent, I offered up the option of one night in Portland, and one night on the coast at Cannon Beach. She thought that was a great idea!

Day one: We were going to go to Multnomah Falls, but they now have a shuttle service where you have to park and pay for a shuttle to take you there. As a native Northwesterner, I kind of harrumphed and decided to go to another nearby waterfall that does not make us jump through hoops to get there. Latourell falls.

Returning to the hotel, we walked the ground and enjoyed a terrific music group in the winery…they had a terrific cider flight. I wish we could have brought the ciders home.

Day 2: The next morning, we soaked in the pool then headed to Cannon Beach. We stayed in an oceanfront suite at the Hallmark Resort.

The exterior property is a bit dated, but the room was lovely, and the view could not be beat! We visited a farmer’s market, shopped a bit downtown, picked up a simple dinner to eat on our deck, then enjoyed the sunset…

The Argonauta Inn is where David and I honeymooned <3. We stayed in the Lower Lighthouse room. They have completely remodeled to where it no longer resembles the room we stayed in, but regardless, it brings back sweet memories.

Day 3: The next morning, we drove down to Tillamook and took the self guided tour at the Tillamook Creamery.  So.many.tourists. Midweek. Mid-Autumn. Where did they all come from??
Regardless, the self guided tour was interesting, and the cheese tasting yummy. We had lunch after at the cafe. Grilled cheese and tomato soup with cheese curds at the bottom. Does it get any better than this? The ice cream line was way too long to consider. We had a plane to catch.  Brought home some aged cheddar from 2012. It was amazing.

The boys and I joined the Coalition for Placer Youth team for a day of volunteering at “Hot Chili Cool Cars”. This is a local event where there is a chili cook off contest and a display of amazing vintage cars. It us much more mild weather this time than last year’s crazy heat. They changed the location of the event and it worked out beautifully this year.

This was my favorite car…
