My goal for 2016 is to run 6 half marathons. I had planned to train for six months and run the first one in June. But, the medal for the Peace, Love, Run swayed me to move it up to March!

A lovely course along the river in Sacramento. Weather was great, and shared the run with an awesome running partner, LoriDawn. A few of the ladies/friends from the running club I belong to (Moms Run This Town) ran as well, and it is always a treat to see them on the run.

12!! What?! 12!!!

The day started with our tradition of the birthday boy eating whatever he wants for breakfast.  ‘R’s choice this year…
Little Caesar’s Bacon Wrapped Pepperoni Pizza and Shirley Temple. Ugh. He was very happy 🙂

We went to Studio Movie Grill for lunch and saw Batman v. Superman, then cupcakes for dessert!

‘R’ and I went for a walk to our neighborhood park and spent a while walking around and taking photos. I loved watching his process and his eye for photos. Here’s a sampling of what he took…

Napa Girls Trip 2016

It had been eight years since this trio was together! After going back and forth about where to meet, it was decided…Napa!

Lola and Kim flew in from their hometowns and I met them at the airport. We drove to our first stop… Domaine Carneros. After a tasting and charcuterie plate in the tasting room, we took the tour. It was wonderful reconnecting with my lifelong friends.

After the tour, we drove up to Calistoga, checked in to the cute little yellow house we rented, ate dinner at the Hydro Bar and Grill. A nice, casual place. Perfect to end the day by watching the movie, “Bottleshock”.

Next day, we beelined for the Oxbow Market, one of my favorite places. Everyone picked what they wanted for brunch, (my meal included oysters!), then walked through downtown Napa.

After walking downtown Napa, we did a tasting at the tasting room,
Gustavo Wine. Having just seen the movie, Bottleshock, the night before, it was neat to taste the wine made by the one of the winemakers portrayed in the movie.

Picked up a bunch of yummies at the Fatted Calf for dinner that night.

Next day, we had a tasting a Castelo di Amorosa. Walked the castle, then drove to St. Helena to explore that town. I always drive through it, but have never walked/shopped it. Here is a photo of me herding some goats that got out of their pen.

St. Helena was a delight. We had a fantastic lunch at Market restaurant. Everything about it was perfect.  This was one of those dining experiences that becomes a memory. It started storming while we were shopping. Drove up to Calistoga to look around the shops there. We had planned to go out for dinner, but the whole town lost power. We ended up picking up deli items at the grocery and ate our dinner by candlelight at home.

Promises to get together within the next three years and wonderful memories to last a lifetime.

Four years ago, Shamrock’n was my second half marathon. The water/aid stations are always appreciated. This year I organized the last aid station for this run. We had about 100 women from our run club run it, and about 30 of us volunteered at the aid/water station.

It was a crazy, rainy, windy, stormy, day. We were cold and wet,(well, not the boys. They would not wear their heavy coats), but still had a great time.  The boys volunteered as well!

Trail Run with Elyse

10 miles of trails. Gorgeous weather, gorgeous views, great conversation.

Unfortunately, she ended up with poison oak on her arm. It’s all over here…

still, good times…

Started with some other friends, then got separated. Met back up with them later at the starting point.

I had the incredible opportunity to be the speaker for the Mt. Hermon Mom and Son Retreat this year! Moms and sons, (2-6th grade), spent the weekend together, playing and praying together.

The theme was “Unbreakable”, with the focus being on the unbreakable bond that is created through paratroopers in the military.  My assignment was to create three talks for moms and sons, two devotionals, and two talks for moms only.

For the mom and son talks, we decided to focus on the attributes of a paratrooper; the internal character needed for that position. The first talk was on loyalty, and what that looks like as a paratrooper, and what loyalty is like within your own family.

The second talk was on Endurance/Perseverance. Keeping your eye on the mission/goal. Not giving up. Staying strong through hard times.

The last talk was on Courage, and the faith/trust in God that is needed to accomplish hard things.

I incorporated my boys into the retreat and had them make up a video to share and also a handshake that the boys could do with them. Then, they gave the boys little paratrooper figures.

It was a special weekend and I am so grateful for the opportunity.

We spent an afternoon in Santa Cruz with our good friends, the Jenks. (John was our pastor in WA state. He currently works for Mt. Hermon, but is moving to Duluth, MN. to pastor a church there. Our other friends, the Williams, were visiting at the same time, so, double bonus!!)IMG_1873

Loot Crate

Antee Sara bought the boys a subscription to Loot Crate, a monthly gift box for “geeks and gamers”. Each month, a box arrives that has a theme. February’s  theme was ‘Dead’. the boys are wearing ‘Deadpool’ shirts, and ‘R’ is modeling the soap on a rope in the shape of ears. That was too creepy for ‘A’, and he would not wear it. 🙂

This is been such a fun gift subscription for the boys. They are loving it!
