DH and I joined our friends for a swanky night out at the William Jessup Gala. It was a combo dinner/auction fundraiser for their scholarship program.  We did not ‘win’ anything on our bidding, but it was a lovely night nonetheless.

Eric and Crystal. (Crystal was such a trooper, dealing with morning sickness with their second!)

I had the boys write a letter to their favorite food company, thanking them for making their favorite food product.

‘A’ chose the company that makes ‘Oreos’. It is now a company called Mondelez International.

‘R’ chose the company that makes ‘Doritos’.  They are made by Frito Lay.

I did not expect the companies to respond. I just wanted them to have experience writing a letter in a business format.

Both companies not only responded with personal letters that addressed the questions the boys asked, they also provided coupons for free product! In addition, Frito Lay sent ‘R’ 20 custom comic books made just for Frito Lay, for him to give to his ‘classmates’.

I am impressed and grateful to these companies for going the extra mile to personally respond to my boys, with treats as well!

Stand Up and Run 5K

Another fun 5K in our area.  This one was on a trail where I used to regularly run three years ago.  It was nice to be back on the trail, although I did say to myself more than once, “I don’t recall running this many hills”…

Met up with one of the women in my running club. We started the run together, then she went ahead and met me for celebratory mimosas after…

Kelly Visits

I have a friend who is a missionary in Japan.  She came back with one of her daughters for a quick visit to Hawaii and California. They are beauty school shopping. It was wonderful to see her even if it was just for a few days.

She brought “treats” to our weekly homeschool park day.  Dried fish packs…

Break Free Run 5K

It was a lovely, yet hot, morning to run a 5K. My son, ‘A’, and my friend, Margo, ran the Break Free Run in Folsom. ‘R’ had an injured heel and waited at the finish line.

It was pretty crowded at the beginning and ‘A’ was getting bored and asked to run ahead. He ended up doing the run in 37:04, with an 11:57 pace! I managed 39:59, 12:54 pace.

This run raised money for fighting s$x trafficking.

Hi, Fellow Runner…

Hi, fellow runner.

You just passed me. I was the one shuffling along, with the big butt, big gut, cherry red face, huffing and puffing, sweat running down my face, but by the grace of God, I am out in the Sacramento sun, aiming to get six miles today., (I managed five).
You might have caught me when I was in a good groove. Listening to music on my headphones, I tend to make little ‘jazz hand’ movements when I feel like dancing while running. When you pass me and say, “keep it up, you are doing great!”, your words become music to my ears and they are added to the music, amping up my little “Dance Party, USA”.

You might have caught me at a low point. The negatives roll around my head. Everything hurts. I’m tired. I think I bit off more than I could chew. Why am I doing this again? When you pass me and say, “keep it up, you are doing great!”, your words become medicine to my soul. As you run in front of me, I watch your gait, and for a few seconds, I match your stride and carriage. All the power, strength, and endurance you have is spread to me for a brief moment. It’s enough to redirect my thoughts back to the positive and I know I can finish what I started.

You, just being you, just being out there, putting in your miles, makes all the difference to me. Thank you.

Autumn Mantel

I was short on time with guests coming over and decided to have the boys switch the summer mantel to autumn.  I love what they ended up doing! No changes from me 🙂

I was not able to get any interior shots, due to lighting, but we attended an excellent lecture on constellations, planets, and aerospace.

Confucius Lesson

The boys had a lesson on the life and beliefs of Confucius.  They made a list of his five main virtues:

Ren = Altruism

Xin = Faithfulness

Xiao = Obedience/Devotion

Li = Ritual/Etiquette

Yi = Justice/Righteousness
