I have decided to implement a theme for the week. We began the ‘apple’ theme today, because, a) we are going on a field trip tomorrow to a place that has a 100 year old apple press, and b) I found a free lapbook study on ‘apples’ at liveandlearnpress.com.<\/a><\/p>\n

I had the boys take their stuffed animals and pretend that they are ‘babies’.\u00a0 They pretended to change diapers, feed them, rock, them.\u00a0 We sang ‘Jesus Loves Me’ to the babies, and we put them to bed.<\/p>\n

Letter Activity<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I had the boys fingerpaint the letter ‘F’.\u00a0 “A” did a great job of staying inside the lines! (Something I requested of him.)<\/p>\n

We also took this time to review that red, yellow, and blue were primary colors, and that yellow and blue make green, yellow and red make orange, and red and blue make purple, and all three make brown.<\/p>\n

I think it has ‘clicked’ with “R”.\u00a0 The past two letters ‘E’ and ‘F’, he has been able to immediately say what they are on sight, without prompting.\u00a0 It will be interesting to see how he does upon review of the other letters.<\/p>\n

Bible Activity<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The boys acted out the story of Moses being found by the Pharoah’s daughter.\u00a0 I gave them prompts and they acted them out, pretending to be the Pharoah’s daughter.<\/p>\n

We then talked about what mothers to do care for their children.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

“A” said: they put bandaids on owies, feed you, and let you play on their computer.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

“R” said: they play cars<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

“O” (visiting friend) said: they take you to the doctor when you are sick<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We made an acrostic poem for the ‘apple’ cover.\u00a0 Here is what they came up with (with a little prompting).<\/p>\n

P<\/strong>enguins do not eat apples<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We also cut an apple in half and put paint on it and stamped the cover.\u00a0 It did not turn out very well, but, oh well.\u00a0 You will see when finished.<\/p>\n

I had the boys sing ‘Estrellita, Donde esta?’ (Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star) without my assistance.\u00a0 ‘A’ nailed it, and ‘R’ did very well.\u00a0 They each got a big star sticker.<\/p>\n

I then quizzed them on colors.\u00a0 For every color they got right, they got a sticker.<\/p>\n
