{"id":338235,"date":"2007-06-04T20:01:00","date_gmt":"2007-06-05T04:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.centerdeep2.com\/riverbendprep\/2007\/06\/04\/my-fun-portland-weekend\/"},"modified":"2007-06-04T20:01:00","modified_gmt":"2007-06-05T04:01:00","slug":"my-fun-portland-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.centerdeep2.com\/riverbendprep\/2007\/06\/04\/my-fun-portland-weekend\/","title":{"rendered":"My Fun Portland Weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My sweetie of a hubby took the boys camping this weekend in Leavenworth, and I took myself to Portland to visit one of my best friends, whom I have known since 1989!<\/p>\n<p>OK, so before we go any further, I must tell you that I am a bit of a &quot;foodie&quot;.&nbsp; I love all cuisines and trying new things.&nbsp; Lola and I share a similar taste of food, clothing, movies, etc, so she knew where to take me.&nbsp; We met up in the NW district, AKA &quot;trendy-third&quot; and had a delicious lunch at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.threelionsbakery.com\/\">Three Lions Bakery<\/a>.&nbsp; Then, we walked and shopped until we stopped at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.papahaydn.com\/\">Papa Haydn<\/a> (she whispers reverentially&#8230;)&nbsp; I could not make up my mind, so I had the waiter decide for me.&nbsp; He said, &quot;<strong>Boccone Dolce-<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Swiss meringues drizzled with semi-sweet chocolate, layered with fresh fruit and chantilly cream.&quot;<br \/>\n<\/em><em><strong>OK!<br \/>\n<\/strong><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1325\/530180766_d1962ec3c8.jpg\" \/><br \/>\n<\/em>Me and my Boccone Dolci (Sooo good)-left&nbsp; Lola and her Marjolaine-right<em><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1100\/530180800_5d06fc7f4e.jpg\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p>After our treat, we shopped some more, then went home for a light dinner of soup and bread, and a movie.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday, we hiked at a nearby park in West Linn&#8230;<br \/>\nThis is a little cove off of the Willamette River-<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1083\/530180822_aebb4dbfac.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\nA Lola glamour shot in the woods..<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1242\/530180866_a17a9df69c.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nThen, we went to the Portland neighborhood called Irvington.&nbsp; Lola intorduced me to a cafe called,<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.costellostravelcaffe.com\/\">Costello&#8217;s Travel Caffe.<\/a>&nbsp; This place was great!&nbsp; They have two flat screen TV&#8217;s that play silent travel videos.&nbsp; They have a chalkboard that let&#8217;s us know what is playing.&nbsp; While we were there, they showed The Columbia Gorge, Rothenberg, London, and Prague.&nbsp; They also have Foreign Language conversation nights.&nbsp; If I lived in Portland, I&#8217;d spend alot of time here!<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1241\/530180888_95f2cb62c0.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nAfter Costello&#8217;s, we walked and shopped this area.&nbsp; On a side street, we found a lovely B&amp;B called the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lionrose.com\/\">Lion and The Rose. <\/a>&nbsp; We did not go in, but looked around their garden.&nbsp; <br \/>\nIn need of a little treat, we stopped at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrbreakfast.com\/r_display.asp?restid=1460\">Cadillac Cafe<\/a> and had a milkshake.&nbsp; This was a fun place that has a real Cadillac inside.&nbsp; &#8216;R&#8217; would love it.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1179\/530188268_1bdfb5a50d.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nAfter our treat, we beat feet for the movie theater and watched &#8216;Pirates of the Caribbean 3&#8217;.&nbsp; It was a perfect way to escape the midday heat! (BTW, this movie was much better than the second one.)<\/p>\n<p>After the movie, we drove to the &#8216;Pearl District&#8217;, an area full of galleries, high end boutiques, and fine dining.&nbsp; We decided to go to &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.andinarestaurant.com\/\">Andina<\/a>&#8216; for a special dinner.&nbsp; This is a fine Peruvian restaurant.&nbsp; We indulged in <em>drink<\/em> (the <span class=\"highlight\">SACSAYHUAM&Aacute;N (pronounced &#8216;Saxy-woman&#8217;, &nbsp;a <\/span>habanero pepper infused vodka shaken with passion fruit puree and cane sugar, served up with a sugar rim and a cilantro leaf garnish), <em>Tapas (<\/em>yuca rellena, causa morada (YUM!), and anticucho de pollo<em>), <\/em>and <em>dessert <\/em>(Flan de queso de carbra).&nbsp; This place a delicious, delightful, and all the other good descriptive words you can come up with.\n<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1345\/530188284_e650f5281b.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nIt was getting late, but we drove to Willamette Falls to enjoy before it was too dark.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1355\/530188314_dd87f4dd1d.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Back home to finish a movie we began the night before, then bed.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday morning, Lola took us to the Southeast Hawthorne area.&nbsp; It is very funky and eclectic, with stores focusing on vintage, retro, grunge, etc.&nbsp; We had breakfast at&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/portland.citysearch.com\/profile\/33646138\/?brand=smx_restaurant-nc\">Chez Machin<\/a>.&nbsp; We had a delicious savory crepe and salad for a light brunch, then walked and shopped this area.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1398\/530188374_f28ed70ad8.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nWe also walked the neighborhood a bit, and enjoyed the lovely bungalow architecture and gardens.<br \/>\nAnd another treat later that day&#8230;(we really did a ton of walking to burn off all the calories!)<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1349\/530188396_a6767fe11e.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nLate afternoon, we drove to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rosegardenstore.org\/\">Rose Garden<\/a> in Washington Park.&nbsp; It was a hot day and there were alot of people, but it did not feel crowded.&nbsp; The roses are gorgeous and there is no way you can capture their beauty on film.<\/p>\n<p>So, um, Lola, what does the sign say, hmmm? <img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/include\/fckeditor\/editor\/images\/smiley\/msn\/wink_smile.gif\" \/><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1401\/530333171_71684b6097.jpg\" \/><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1121\/530332955_da1528e448.jpg\" \/><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1103\/530188456_9917e63c45.jpg\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1320\/530333051_da1e294fc2.jpg\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1428\/530333057_b9305768b1.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nView of downtown from the garden<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1152\/530333233_57cc91262b.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nThis garden is an experimental garden.&nbsp; You will find many varieties that you will not find anywhere else.&nbsp; Here is something I had never seen before.&nbsp; Does this look like a bouquet of different roses to you?&nbsp; It is actually blooms from a single stalk!&nbsp; Incredible!!<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1120\/531055045_f903fca54e.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nWe had an early dinner of some yummy Thai food, then I was on the road home.&nbsp; It was a fun weekend that I will always treasure with my buddy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My sweetie of a hubby took the boys camping this weekend in Leavenworth, and I took myself to Portland to visit one of my best friends, whom I have known since 1989!
