{"id":590945,"date":"2008-09-16T14:43:00","date_gmt":"2008-09-16T22:43:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.centerdeep2.com\/riverbendprep\/2008\/09\/16\/science-lesson-parts-of-a-flower\/"},"modified":"2008-09-16T14:43:00","modified_gmt":"2008-09-16T22:43:00","slug":"science-lesson-parts-of-a-flower","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.centerdeep2.com\/riverbendprep\/2008\/09\/16\/science-lesson-parts-of-a-flower\/","title":{"rendered":"Science Lesson: Parts of a Flower"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of our lessons this week was on the parts of a buttercup.&nbsp; Instead of just reading about it in a book, and look at the illustrations, I decided we should go on a neighborhood walk and bring back a bouquest of buttercups to observe and dissect.<\/p>\n<p>Well, we saw a bunch of dandelions, but after a good walk through our neighborhood, here are the fruits of our labor&#8230;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3004\/2863570694_7467b3af10.jpg?v=0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\nSo, we had one buttercup to work with!&nbsp; We looked at the parts through a magnifying glass.&nbsp; The parts we learned about are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>stem- draws nutrients and water up to the flower. <\/li>\n<li>sepals &#8211; the protective covering when the flower is a bud.&nbsp; The speals separate as the flower blooms.&nbsp; You can see five sepals under the petals of a fully bloomed flower. <\/li>\n<li>petals &#8211; the colorful part of the flower that attracts bees and birds.&nbsp; Surrounds the pistil and stamen. <\/li>\n<li>pistil-holds the seeds.&nbsp; Surrounded by stamen. <\/li>\n<li>stamen-holds the pollen.&nbsp; The pistil and the stemen are needed for reproduction of the flower.\n    <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Our &quot;budding&quot; scientists at work&#8230;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3257\/2863570040_541d2c7c8e.jpg?v=0\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3217\/2862737461_325d27cce9.jpg?v=0\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of our lessons this week was on the parts of a buttercup.&nbsp; Instead of just reading about it in a book, and look at the illustrations, I decided we should go on a neighborhood walk and bring back a bouquest of buttercups to observe and dissect.
