{"id":782999,"date":"2010-06-09T09:08:27","date_gmt":"2010-06-09T17:08:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/homeschoolblogger.com\/leigharev2\/?p=782999"},"modified":"2010-06-09T09:08:27","modified_gmt":"2010-06-09T17:08:27","slug":"california-redwoods-avenue-of-the-giants-friday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.centerdeep2.com\/riverbendprep\/2010\/06\/09\/california-redwoods-avenue-of-the-giants-friday\/","title":{"rendered":"California Redwoods &#8211; Avenue of the Giants &#8211; FRIDAY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My wonderful in-laws, Fabio and Esperanza\u00a0 (AKA Dado and Dada) flew down from Washington state for an incredible weekend exploring the majestic California redwoods with us.\u00a0 We chose a stretch\u00a0of redwoods called the &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/avenueofthegiants.net\/\">Avenue of the Giants<\/a>&#8220;.\u00a0 Located along a 31 mile road parallel to Hwy 101 in the Humboldt Redwoods State Park, some of these trees are documented as the tallest in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Just south of the &#8220;Avenue of the Giants&#8221; was our first tourist stop:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.drivethrutree.com\/\">The Chandelier Drive Through Tree<\/a>.\u00a0 We did not drive our van through, but were able to watch smaller cars make it and larger cars think about it before bailing out.\u00a0 The tree really does kind of look like a chandelier!<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4010\/4684449928_1c3466fb57.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A sweet meadow behind the gift shop&#8230;<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1273\/4684449974_0573635430.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There was a carved sign with a neat poem (author unknown by me).\u00a0 I took a picture of the carving, but it is to hard to read in the picture.\u00a0 So, here it is&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><em>Here, sown by the Creator&#8217;s hand,<br \/>\nIn serried ranks, the Redwoods stand;<br \/>\nNo other clime is honored so,<br \/>\nNo other lands their glory know.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The greatest of Earth&#8217;s living forms,<br \/>\nTall conquerors that laugh at storms,<br \/>\nTheir challenge still unanswered rings,<br \/>\nThrough fifty centuries of kings.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>This is their temple, vaulted high,<br \/>\nAnd here the pause with reverential eye,<br \/>\nWith silent tongue and awe-struck soul,<br \/>\nFor here we sense life&#8217;s proper goal.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>To be like these, straight, true and fine,<br \/>\nTo make our world, like there&#8217;s a shrine,<br \/>\nSink down, Oh, traveler, on your knees,<br \/>\nGod stands before you in these trees.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4008\/4684450614_18bc679953.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On our way out, we saw these two darling fawns.\u00a0 We know mama wasn&#8217;t too far off, but did not see her&#8230;<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4050\/4684450738_a15b062ce0.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I tried to find lodging for us around this area, but was unsuccessful.\u00a0 This turned out to be a blessing because I ended up reserving two rooms at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.innofthelostcoast.com\/inn.html\">Inn\u00a0of the Lost Coast<\/a> in Shelter Cove.\u00a0 To get here, we had to take a <em>very<\/em> winding\u00a0 road for what seemed like <em>forever.\u00a0 <\/em>Just when I thought Icould not take it any more, we entered a small town right on the ocean cliff.<\/p>\n<p>This property was perfect for us.\u00a0 It was not fancy, and it definitely had that salt-air sea damaged look, but this was our view&#8230;not bad, huh??<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4015\/4684450812_a852d8fbc0.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4007\/4684450994_823c2c5ec8.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4031\/4684451096_bfbaf932d9.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We picked up some pizza, and stayed in for the rest of the evening.
