{"id":783290,"date":"2010-11-21T13:49:11","date_gmt":"2010-11-21T21:49:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/homeschoolblogger.com\/leigharev2\/?p=783290"},"modified":"2010-11-21T13:49:11","modified_gmt":"2010-11-21T21:49:11","slug":"camping-theme-party","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.centerdeep2.com\/riverbendprep\/2010\/11\/21\/camping-theme-party\/","title":{"rendered":"Camping Theme Party"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The boys were invited to a birthday party for one of their friends.\u00a0 The theme was camping.\u00a0 They did an amazing job orchestrating a fun evening for everyone!<\/p>\n<p>The yard was decorated with little camping areas.\u00a0 Everyone stayed outside for the whole event; an excellent idea when you have about 10 boys around!\u00a0 The boys were told to come dressed as a camper.\u00a0 &#8216;R&#8217; wanted me to make his face look dirty, so I smudged brown eyeliner on their faces.<\/p>\n<p>Two of the dads were the &#8220;camp counselors&#8221;.\u00a0\u00a0 The first activity was to decorate a beige bandana they received, and also decorate an empty soup can with camping stickers.\u00a0 Inside the can, they received a camping activity booklet, and a pencil.\u00a0 The boys were to keep this can with them for the rest of the evening.\u00a0 I think they did one of the booklet activities as well.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5162\/5195579663_b34fc3a41f.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4086\/5195580947_0e7c85b5f7.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The boys\u00a0were led from the yard to a community green space near home.\u00a0\u00a0 &#8216;K&#8217;s dad talked about fire safety, then showed them how to use a flintstone to begin a fire.\u00a0 The kids were divided into two rows and had a relay race to place river rock in a circle, then place sticks inside the rock circle.\u00a0 &#8220;Amazingly&#8221;,\u00a0 the relay ended in a tie, and all the kids received a magnifying glass to add to their cans.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4152\/5196182130_c4d67ed3d2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After the race, they went on a &#8220;hike&#8221; into a group of redwoods. &#8216;K&#8217;s dad taught them about redwoods, how to estimate how much wood can be harvested from one tree, and how to estimate how tall the tree is.\u00a0Then, they went on a scavenger hunt from the booklet and had to find items that were only found in nature.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4130\/5196183240_802fc79996.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4085\/5196184558_68b91d572f.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" \/><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4133\/5195586481_ff65c96037.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Post hunt, they\u00a0sat in a circle and\u00a0learned\u00a0\u00a0about how to tell direction based on the sun, and the stars.\u00a0 They all received a toy compass to add to their can.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4130\/5196187466_1fc81e8497.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The last activity among the redwoods, was a hunt for little plastic frogs, snakes, and lizards to place in their can.\u00a0 Then, the trek back to the house for a yummy dinner of hot dogs, chips, carrots, and apples&#8230;<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4144\/5196188722_eff672e780.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My friend made an incredible cake that looked like a campsite, with grass, trees, and a little tent.\u00a0 Her sons name was on it and she asked that none of his personal info be placed on the blog, so I am not posting the cake.\u00a0 But trust me when I say it is amazing!<\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s camping without s&#8217;mores!\u00a0 The second dessert&#8230;.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4125\/5196190756_f276e0508f.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" \/><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4154\/5195592393_2b7d1a8fdd.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My boy mom friends: Leslie, Colleen, Stacy, and Elyse<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4154\/5196192870_17a1e21098.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The evening ended with the kids receiving little flashlights that attach to their belt loops.\u00a0 They went to the front yard and played flashlight tag.\u00a0 My boys discovered a new way to entertain themselves with the flashlight&#8230;<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4110\/5195594459_c67964be2d.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Such a fun party!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The boys were invited to a birthday party for one of their friends.\u00a0 The theme was camping.\u00a0 They did an amazing job orchestrating a fun evening for everyone!
