{"id":783646,"date":"2011-04-29T20:23:26","date_gmt":"2011-04-30T04:23:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/homeschoolblogger.com\/leigharev2\/?p=783646"},"modified":"2011-04-29T20:23:26","modified_gmt":"2011-04-30T04:23:26","slug":"easter-story-cookies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.centerdeep2.com\/riverbendprep\/2011\/04\/29\/easter-story-cookies\/","title":{"rendered":"Easter Story Cookies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have friends who make Resurrection cookies every Easter. \u00a0I forgot about them until our friend Jeff sent us an email on how to make them. \u00a0This year, I decided to make them with the boys. \u00a0It was a special addition to the significance of the holy-day.<\/p>\n<h1><span style=\"font-family: Arial\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><strong>Easter Story Cookies<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-weight: normal;font-size: 13px\">To be made the evening before Easter<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-weight: normal;font-size: 13px\">You need:<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-weight: normal;font-size: 13px\">1 cup whole pecans<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-weight: normal;font-size: 13px\">1 tsp. vinegar<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-weight: normal;font-size: 13px\">3 egg whites<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-weight: normal;font-size: 13px\">pinch salt<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-weight: normal;font-size: 13px\">1 cup sugar<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-weight: normal;font-size: 13px\">zipper baggie<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-weight: normal;font-size: 13px\">wooden spoon<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-weight: normal;font-size: 13px\">tape<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-weight: normal;font-size: 13px\">Bible<\/span><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">Preheat oven to 300 degrees (this is important&#8211;don&#8217;t wait until you&#8217;re half done with the recipe!)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">Place pecans in zipper baggie and let children beat them <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">with the wooden spoon to break into small pieces. Explain <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">that after Jesus was arrested, He was beaten by the Roman soldiers. Read John 19:1-3.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">Let each child smell the vinegar. Put 1 tsp. vinegar into mixing bowl. Explain that when Jesus was thirsty on the cross, He was given vinegar to drink. Read John 19:28-30.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">Add egg whites to vinegar. Eggs represent life. Explain that Jesus gave His life to give us life. Read John 10:10-11.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">Sprinkle a little salt into each child&#8217;s hand. Let them taste it and brush the rest into the bowl. Explain that this represents the salty tears shed by Jesus&#8217; followers, and the bitterness of our own sin. Read Luke 23:27.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">So far, the ingredients are not very appetizing.\u00a0 Add 1 cup of sugar.\u00a0 Explain that the sweetest part of the story is that Jesus died because He loves us.\u00a0 He wants us to know and belong to Him.\u00a0 Read Ps. 34:8 and John 3:16.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">Beat with a mixer on high speed for 12 to 15 minutes until stiff peaks are formed. Explain that the color white represents the purity in God&#8217;s eyes of those whose sins have been cleansed by Jesus.<br \/>\nRead Isa. 1:18 and John 3:1-3.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">Fold in broken nuts. Drop by teaspoons onto wax paper covered cookie sheet. Explain that each mound represents the rocky tomb where Jesus&#8217; body was laid.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">Read Matt. 27:57-60.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">Put the cookie sheet in the oven, close the door and turn the oven OFF.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">Give each child a piece of tape and seal the oven door. Explain that Jesus&#8217; tomb was sealed. Read Matt. 27:65-66.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">GO TO BED! Explain that they may feel sad to leave the cookies in the oven overnight. Jesus&#8217; followers were in despair when the tomb was sealed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">Read John 16:20 and 22.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">On Easter morning, open the oven and give everyone a cookie.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">Notice the cracked surface and take a bite. The cookies are hollow!
