{"id":785229,"date":"2011-12-30T00:46:22","date_gmt":"2011-12-30T00:46:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.centerdeep2.com\/riverbendprep\/?p=785229"},"modified":"2011-12-30T00:46:22","modified_gmt":"2011-12-30T00:46:22","slug":"tackling-a-big-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.centerdeep2.com\/riverbendprep\/2011\/12\/30\/tackling-a-big-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Tackling a Big Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I just ran across these notes from a talk I attended years ago. \u00a0I feel bad that I did not write the name of the speaker to give her the credit. \u00a0There are some great points I want to pass on\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>THOUGHTS BECOME ACTIONS. \u00a0CHANGE THE WAY YOU THINK.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Procrastination Stoppers<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>80\/20 Rule. \u00a0An italian economist in 1895 surmised that we spend 20% = vital few\/80% = trivial many\n<ol>\n<li>Invest 20% of your time that makes 80% of your income<\/li>\n<li>Tackle the 20% \u201cvital few\u201d first: (mine are: Quiet time, homeschool, home management)<\/li>\n<li>You need to sit at the feet of Jesus if you are going to minister to your children.<\/li>\n<li>Commit to only doing the vital few everyday. \u00a0The others come as time allows.<\/li>\n<li>The bigger the project, the bigger the reward.<\/li>\n<li>Make a list of your 20\/80<\/li>\n<li>Create a sub-list for the \u201cvital few\u201d. \u00a0(Ex. my 20% for homeschool would be: Bible, math, language arts)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Singularity- just do the next thing. \u00a0Don\u2019t think of the whole project; just think of the next thing. \u00a0(How do you eat an elephant? \u00a0One bite at a time\u2026)<\/li>\n<li>Talent -Natural or Learned: If you are really good at one think, but do another, you are not utilizing the gifts God gave you to the best. \u00a0What can you do that will most bless your family?<\/li>\n<li>Protect your Assets-\n<ol>\n<li>Take care of yourself. \u00a0Take care of your children. \u00a0It might cost you more initially, but look at the long run.<\/li>\n<li>Know your peak and pace. \u00a0Take it slow and steady.<\/li>\n<li>Intercede for your family. \u00a0Instruct them, involve them, teach them.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Silence- This is when God speaks to you. \u00a0Take time to disconnect from cell phones, computers, children, etc.\n<ol>\n<li>Technology is your servant; not your master.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Slice it Thin \u2013 Do a little at a time. \u00a0Break it into small projects.\n<ol>\n<li>Don\u2019t just \u201cclean the living room\u201d\n<ol>\n<li>Fold blankets<\/li>\n<li>put away toys<\/li>\n<li>dust<\/li>\n<li>vacuum<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Time- Create chunks of time.\n<ol>\n<li>Do the same thing everyday for an allotted amount of time.<\/li>\n<li>Compartmentalize.<\/li>\n<li>Plan out your time (Do all your calls at the same time.)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Place items on a whiteboard or notebook:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>collect the thoughts -action items get a checkbox<\/li>\n<li>if the action item is 2 minutes or less- do it now!<\/li>\n<li>if it is a project \u2013 break it down into steps and move ahead one step at a time.<\/li>\n<li>code something if you are waiting for a response, so you don&#8217;t have to read it over and over.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I just ran across these notes from a talk I attended years ago. \u00a0I feel bad that I did not write the name of the speaker to give her the credit. \u00a0There are some great points I want to pass on\u2026 THOUGHTS BECOME ACTIONS. \u00a0CHANGE THE WAY YOU THINK.
