A.A. Milne is best known as the author of the ‘Winnie the Pooh’ tales. \u00a0His birthday was January 18th. \u00a0We had a little unit study that covered a little bit of his biography, and did an art project. \u00a0Happy birthday Mr. Milne!<\/p>\n

A few tidbits…a la Wikipedia<\/strong><\/p>\n

Born:\u00a018 January 1882
\nDied: 31 January 1956<\/p>\n

One of his teachers was\u00a0H. G. Wells\u00a0who taught there in 1889\u201390.<\/p>\n

He married Dorothy “Daphne” de S\u00e9lincourt in 1913, and their only son,\u00a0Christopher Robin Milne, was born in 1920.<\/p>\n

Milne is most famous for his two\u00a0Pooh<\/em>\u00a0books about a boy named\u00a0Christopher Robin\u00a0after his son,\u00a0Christopher Robin Milne, and various characters inspired by his son’s stuffed animals, most notably the bear named\u00a0Winnie-the-Pooh.<\/p>\n

Christopher Robin Milne’s stuffed bear, originally named “Edward”,\u00a0was renamed “Winnie-the-Pooh” after a Canadian\u00a0black bear\u00a0named\u00a0Winnie\u00a0(after Winnipeg), which was used as a military mascot in World War I, and left to\u00a0London Zoo\u00a0during the war. \u00a0\u00a0“The pooh” comes from a swan called “Pooh”.<\/p>\n

The fictional\u00a0Hundred Acre Wood\u00a0of the Pooh stories derives from Five Hundred Acre Wood in\u00a0Ashdown Forest\u00a0in\u00a0East Sussex, South East England, where the Pooh stories were set. Milne lived on the northern edge of the Forest and took his son walking there.<\/p>\n

For the art project, I asked the boys what kind of house they would live in if they were to live in the Hundred Acre Wood. \u00a0Both made treehouses.
