\"anointing_of_fresh_oil\"<\/p>\n

Lately, I have been ruminating over the word, Anointed<\/em><\/strong>. \u00a0This is used throughout scripture, worship songs, and Christian conversation. \u00a0 But, what does it mean to be ‘anointed’, really? \u00a0How does it apply to my life?<\/p>\n

Definition Merriam-Webster Dictionary:<\/p>\n

1 :\u00a0to smear or rub with oil or an oily substance<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
2:<\/strong>\u00a0to apply oil to as a sacred rite especially for consecration<\/div>\n
\n
\u00a0b<\/em>\u00a0:<\/strong>\u00a0to choose by or as if by divine election;\u00a0also<\/em>\u00a0:<\/strong>\u00a0to designate as if by a ritual\u00a0anointment\u00a0<critics\u00a0anoint<\/em>ed<\/em>\u00a0the author as the bright new talent><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“To anoint” in Greek is the verb\u00a0chrio’.<\/em>\u00a0(See\u00a0Strong’s Concordance<\/a>).\u00a0<\/em>This is the act of rubbing or pouring\u00a0olive oil\u00a0on someone to represent the empowering of the Holy Spirit. Anointing involved rubbing olive oil on the head, to present someone as appointed by God to serve as prophet, priest or king, etc.<\/div>\n

The Bible says that Jesus Christ was anointed by God with the Holy Spirit to spread the Good News and free those who have been held captive by sin.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Luke 4:18-19<\/strong> says, \u201cThe Spirit of the Lord is on me,\u00a0because he has anointed<\/strong> me\u00a0to proclaim good news\u00a0to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners\u00a0and recovery of sight for the blind,\u00a0to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord\u2019s favor.\u201d<\/em>
\nThis was what Jesus had read in the syanagogue from the words of Isaiah. \u00a0He then went on to proclaim that this prophecy is fulfilled through him.<\/div>\n

Jesus sent us the Holy Spirit to guide us in righteousness. \u00a01 John 20:<\/strong>\u00a0But you have an anointing<\/strong> from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth. \u00a0<\/em>This anointing is given to ALL believers. \u00a0We have it even if we don’t walk in it . \u00a0This is something I want to be more responsive to. \u00a0Because of the anointing of the Holy Spirit, we have access to the truth.<\/div>\n

In Biblical times, shepherds would pour and rub oil on their sheep’s head and ears to keep lice from infecting them. \u00a0The oil would inhibit the lice’s burrowing efforts. \u00a0Similar treatments are still used today in ointment form. \u00a0It’s kind of gross to think about, but I love the visual of nasty lice trying to burrow in and infect the poor sheep. \u00a0But, the oil causes them to slip and fall off the sheep’s ear. \u00a0Kind of like Satan’s lies that try to burrow into my ear. \u00a0The anointing of the Holy Spirit causes them to slip and fall away. \u00a0Occasionally, one of those little buggers holds on and burrows in, causing a lot of pain and suffering. \u00a0Still, the Holy Spirit tends to my wounds, lovingly, tenderly, consistently.<\/p>\n

Know this. \u00a0As a believer of Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you are ANOINTED<\/strong> in the Holy Spirit, guiding you to the Fruit of the Spirit…love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. (Galatians 5:22-23). \u00a0 Submit and receive all that the Holy Spirit has for you!<\/p>\n
