I gave the boys $60 and challenged them to create a dinner menu (with dessert), then shop and cook on their own. (they did not spend the whole amount; I just wanted to make sure they were covered.)

While I met with friends at a nearby coffee shop, the boys went to Whole Foods and bought their ingredients. Their menu for the evening:

1st course: Raw spiraled zucchini with bottles citrus vinaigrette
2nd Course: Penne a la Vodka
Dessert: Chocolate dipped frozen bananas

They did an excellent job. I only interjected twice. Once to place the vodka into the sauce (I was concerned spilling and possible fire) and when ‘R’ proceeded to chop three heads of garlic and not three cloves…

They had purchased carob chips for the banana, but these were lost. So, they ended up using Guittard chocolate bars we had on hand. A fortuitous error. They were delicious!!
