We got our power back on Christmas Eve and had just enough time to get home, get presents wrapped and head to Dado and Dada’s for Christmas Eve dinner.  It became abundantly clear while driving that there was no way we were going to be able to get back home that night, it was snowing so hard.

So, we invited ourselves to spend the night at Dado and Dada’s.  They were gracious and accommodating, and it turned out to be a special time for all.

Jealous?  You should be 🙂

Nice hat, Dado!

The boys crashed and slept hard all night.  They were the last ones to wake up on Christmas morning!

Snow Drama

Sorry it has been so long since updating.  It has been pretty crazy around here.  After celebrating ‘A’s 6th birthday on the 20th, we encountered a major wind and snow storm that night.  It knocked out power to our house (JUST our house), due to a tree branch taking down our lines to the house.

Soooo, what does our family do when the power goes out?  We moe to The Westin, of course! 🙂  We found a great rate online and decided not to use our owner’s points we had.  Upon checking in, they upgrade us twice, so we go a fantastic balcony room with the biggest bathtub I have ever seen.  I actually felt guilty using it because it took so much water to fill it!  I appeased the guilt by having the boys bathe after me 🙂

We spent three nights swimming in the pool, watching movies, and nerfing around Bellevue Square, getting our shopping accomplished.

The hotel had wall mirrors opposite each other and the boys enjoyed playing with them…

They also enjoyed the hotel’s escalators…

I took the boys to a matinee one day and they enjoyed the game room before the show.  Here is ‘R’ on a "motorcycle"…

It was a fun time, and the snow made it all the more special.

SNOW! SNOW! SNOW!

Yeah, right, school today….sure…

‘R’, our snow eater…

‘A’ , our living snowman…

My friend, Heidi, was telling me about a neat project her son did at school.  We decided to do something similar at home.  For directions, go here.

We made four pipe cleaner snowflakes…

Placed 3T. Borax per one cup boiling water into a gladd jar and hung the snowflakes in the jar.

The next morning…

Borax Crystal Snowflakes!

Watching the real thing…

Gotta Love Costco!

Putting Up the Tree

We are blessed to live in an area abundant with pine trees.  True, the needles are a nightmare for lawn maintenance and even inside, but it makes for a lovely place to live.
At the entrance of our neighborhood, there is a tree farm.  We went there this year to find "the one."
And here it is!

Ama came over for dinner the next evening and helped us decorate the tree…

‘A’ read "The Cat in the Hat" to us, and ‘R’ thought it was humorous to create our own "Cat in the Hat"!

COOL CLOUDS

As we were driving home from Puyallup, we saw these cool cloud formations.  Anyone know what they are called and why they came to be that way??

Fun Day with the Boys

I took the boys to the Victorian Country Christmas in Puyallup.  The weather was perfect!  We were able to find some items for ourselves and a few gifts as well.

They had a tractor pulling wagons, and a "Santa train".  Here we are on the tractor…

We also enjoyed an adorable Holiday Follies show.  There were about eight performers, all over the age of 60!

The boys loved this booth.  It was actually for Australian clothing, but they had real crocodile heads of all sizes.  This picture was taken just a few minutes before the unthinkable happened…I lost ‘R’ for a couple minutes.  It was not very long, but it seemed line eternity.  He latched on to some grandparents who were just about to look for security, when we found each other.

Riding the beautiful carousel built in the 1800s.

This licorice rope was actually hot!  Sooooooo good!

The freezer has been looking a little neglected lately, so I had a mini cooking spree last night.

From the Fix, Freeze and Feast cookbook, I made…
Cashew Chicken Stir Fry
Margarita Pork Chops
Cream of Mushroom Soup

From Fix It and Forget It Lightly, I made…
White Chicken Chili
Sausage Pasta

We read about how a plant transfer water and nutrients up their stem (or stalk) to nourish their leaves.  To show how this happens, we took a couple of stalks of celery and placed it in a vase with blue food colored water…
