DH’s birthday was celebrated with Dado, Dada, and Antee Sara at Azteca.  We had fun being together and enjoying the tortilla bar, celebratory beverages, and yummy food!

BEAUTIFUL CHRISTIAN SISTER

By Maya Angelou

‘A woman’s heart should be so hidden in Christ
That a man should have to seek Him first to find her.’

When I say… "I am a Christian"
I’m not shouting "I’m clean livin”
I’m whispering ‘I was lost,
Now I’m found and forgiven.’

When I say… "I am a Christian"
I don’t speak of this with pride.
I’m confessing that I stumble
and need Christ to be my guide.

When I say… "I am a Christian"
I’m not trying to be strong.
I’m professing that I’m weak and
need His strength to carry on.

When I say… "I am a Christian"
I’m not bragging of success.
I’m admitting I have failed and
need God to clean my mess.

When I say… "I am a Christian"
I’m not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible but,
God believes I am worth it.

When I say… "I am a Christian"
I still feel the sting of pain…
I have my share of heartaches,
so I call upon His name.

When I say… "I am a Christian"
I’m not holier than thou,
I’m just a simple sinner
Who received God’s good grace, somehow!

Rest in Peace, Dan

A good childhood friend of my brothers passed away unexpectedly from a pulmonary embolism during back surgery.  We attended his funeral yesterday.  It was obvious he was dearly loved.  The church was standing room only and out the doors.

I knew Dan since we were about 4 years old.  We all grew up together.  Even though I rarely saw him our adult years, there is a fraternal tie that binds that cannot be broken.  Dan and his brother Mike will always be brothers to me.  I will always remember his incredible sense of humor and love for others.  It was mentioned more than once at the service, that Dan was everyone’s best friend.  That is how he made you feel when you were with him.

It was surreal to see a bunch of people I have not seen since high school (that’s over 20 years…).  I even saw our old babysitter, Doreen.  It was great seeing everyone again, even under such sad circumstances.

My love and prayers go to the Twito family.  Dan will be remembered in the best way.

A group of Dan’s friends (my brother included) had a memorial tattoo done in Dan’s honor.  It is his last name ‘Twito’ vertical in what looks like Japanese brush strokes.  It is a beautiful tribute.  You can see the art on the picture below.  My brother has it running down his inner forearm.

Birthday pictures

It was DH’s birthday last week. The boys drew pictures of Maui for their Daddy.

‘A’s is on the left.  It is a palm tree and a rainbow.  Please note the blue coral beneath the sea.

‘R’s is on the right.  It is a palm tree with a ladder for someone to climb and chop down palm fronds.  There is a bench beneath it.  Also note on the lower right corner, there is a ladder that has legs.  It is running away because it does not want to work that day.

This is another picture ‘A’ drew.  It is another picture of the four of us beneath a palm tree.  I am keeping this one for myself!

Easter craft

The boys did these last year as well.  I love them!  It is crushed easter egg glued to the cross.

Homeschool Highlights

We read a book called, ‘First Thousand Words’.  Each page is a theme and the words associated with it.  I also use the same book in Spanish.

We were reading the words for the train station, the airport, and the garage.  I read the word in Englis, then Spanish, and the boys copy me.

For the word "airplane" , I said:

"el avion"

R says: "I love you too".

I repeat: "El avion"

R says: "I love you too."

It is then that I realized he thought I was saying, "I love you", instead of  "el avion."

We are still reading a chapter book called ‘Milly Molly Mandy".  We were reading about how the kids practiced swimming on a crate before going to the ocean.  The boys wanted to do this, so we brought out some boxes.

We are working one writing numbers.  I can’t proceed with our math worksheets until we can read the answers!

‘A’ is on the last book in the Bob Book volume 2 series.  ‘R’ is beginning book 2 in volume 1.

Menu Plan Monday

I am still working through the ‘Once a Month’ meals!  We just had the teiryaki chikcen last night.  So good!  This is our last week with the OAMC meals.  I need to decide if I want to do another OAMC, one for 2 weeks, or go back to just a regular menu for a while.

Monday: Mrs. Ringles Brisket, baked potatoes, succotash

Tuesday: Heavenly Chicken, sauteed zucchini

Wednesday: Hamburgers, Tater Tots, Green Salad

Thursday: Stove top BBQ chicken, White rice, Broccoli

Friday: Leftovers

Saturday: Date night

Sunday: Easter/not sure what we are doing yet…

DH belongs to a Worship band called, ‘Center Deep’.  The bass guitarist, Rob, invited the band to join him for a non-profit auction.  We had a fun night, getting all dressed up, eating a delicious dinner, and bidding on items.  We teamed up with our friends, the Carters, and won a wine tasting for 10 at the Hoodsport winery.  We hope to make it a fun couples weekend some time this summer.

Here we are before heading on our way to the event in Everett.  This is me and Lisa in her sporty convertible…(It’s kind of ‘Thelma and Louise-ish’!)

I started compiling a list of all the things the boys would like to do or see someday.  Whenever we read about something during homeschool, or watching TV, whatever, one of the boys will chime in, "can we do/see that someday?"  So, it goes on the list.  Here is what we have so far:

The "A" Family List of Things
to Do and See Someday

  1. See orca whales
  2. See sharks
  3. See the Aurora Borealis
  4. Ice skate
  5. Go to an underwater hotel
  6. Go to the Sydney Opera House in Australia
  7. Go to France and see the Eiffel Tower
  8. Go in an underwater submersible machine
  9. Drive the England-France chunnel
  10. Helicopter over Mt. Rushmore
  11. Scuba Dive

This last Tuesday, we had our first homeschool co-op gathering at our church. The Children’s Ministry Director has graciously agreed to let us use one of the rooms temporarily for our growing group. Really, it’s 3 rooms in one…each room has a sliding divider wall which we left open to create one large room. It was really nice to have the space. Thank you Liann!!!!

I (Megan) hosted this week and decided to center our morning around Spring Time. I was a little nervous as to how the morning would go because I was setting up in a room absent of any toys. Whenever we’ve held  Tuesday School in someone’s home, there are always so many "extra" things for the kids to do during "free-play time". But this also means that there is always a large mess to clean up as well. As it turned out, I seriously underestimated the imagination and energy of the kids in our group. For the first 15 minutes or so, they all ran laps as they laughed and chased each other around some long tables that were set up in the room. They had a blast doing this. I was amazed….and thrilled! So, having the extra space all contained in one room without the distraction of toys and things actually worked out really well.

Here are some photos:

Munchkins sitting on gym mats at the end of the room, resting after running laps.

Circle Time….we sang a song and then talked about what changes take place in the Spring and what everyone likes to do at this time of year. The kids all agreed that the weather is a bit wacky in March. We see a bit of everything…wind, rain, sun, cold and warmer temps. We also talked about flowers blooming, trees are starting to grow leaves, grass is growing, we can grow gardens, and play more outside. Then we learned how caterpillars turn in to butterflies, birds build nests and lay eggs that hatch into baby birds and this is when we start to see and hear frogs as well. As we talked about these things, I taught the kids some of the signs for words associated with Spring. And we also played a memorization game. I brought along a few items associated with Spring (gardening gloves, small shovel, sun glasses, etc.) and then removed one at a time while they closed their eyes. Once they opened their eyes, they had to guess which item was removed. They all did a great job!!!

We made caterpillars next. I had the kids paint small rocks. They didn’t dry in time for us to hot glue them together, so I took them home and will glue them and bring them next week for the kids.

Next the kids created flowers with different colored wooden shapes. They did great with this.

And then we had a "Windy" Balloon activity. The object was to use straws to blow balloons across the floor like the wind.

What cuties!!

All in all, it was a fun day!!!
