DH and I teamed up this weekend to tackle the boys room in a big way.  The boys share a very small bedroom and we needed to be more streamlined in our organization.  I don’t want to be cleaning up after my kids all the time, and they needed a system they could handle.

The Issue
The clothes that hang in the closet often end up on the floor when the boys get toys from below or dress themselves.  The clothes on the shelves end up on the floor when the boys dress themselves.  I have a hard time figuring out what is clean, yet dropped, and what is dirty.

The toys are cluttered in a variety of bins and baskets, the small bookshelf in the closet is packed with games and puzzles.

The Solution

Clothing

  • We created seven sets of outfits for each boy (shirt, pants, undies, socks)
  • Six outfits are for every day, two are for Sunday
  • Each set of clothes went into one small plastic container and labled with the boy’s name
  • The boys choose which outfit they want to wear for the day and pulls the container from the closet
  • We placed about 4-5 pairs of pj’s for each boy in a plastic bin under the bed
  • We have an additional small bin for a few extra undies, socks, and a couple of shirts
  • We went through the summer clothes, and the items we did not donate ended up in a bin in the garage.
  • The remaining clothes that did not make it into a bin were donated.  We donated FOUR plastic tall kitchen garbage bags!

Toys

  • We divided the toys into three groups
    • A-Toys the boys play with often and/or have educational value
    • B-Toys we will rotate to the garage
    • C-Toys that will be donated or tossed
  • The ‘A’ toys went onto the bookshelf or into a couple of bins
  • The’B’ toys went into plastic bins and placed in the garage
  • We donated ONE plastic garbage bag of toys and tossed 1/2 of  a bag

Misc.

  • We bought two floor lamps for better lighting of the room and closet
  • We are donating the dresser, creating more floor space
  • We are donating the small bookshelf

Sundy hosted today’s group. We had a small group today. But it was still a lot of fun. We celebrated Sundy’s son’s "T’s" birthday he turned 5.

We started with cirlce time and then Sundy put on a puppet show and gave some rules for the day and did some trivia on "T’s" birth.

The kids watching the puppet show. The kids also dressed up for the party.

Sundy had the kids dance. Here is "T" busting a move!

Making their own puppets.

Puzzle time

And yes cupcakes!

 It was a great day!

I  keep all my (current) homeschool items in a tiny closet in the hallyway.  It has kind of become a bit of a "catch all"  Here are the items I am throwing away, donating, returning, or giving:

– donating my FIL’s phone

-giving a gift I was supposed to give my friend for Christmas

-recycling a bunch of misc. used craft paper

-throwing away over a year’s worth of "dust bunnies" that accumulated under the file drawer

-In cleaning the book shelf, I moved the homeschool books to the boy’s bookshelf and am donating some of the boy’s older books to make room for these.

-I am going to donate or consign a few Abeka preK items I have, but do not use.  RNW ladies are welcome to them!

Our homeschool co-op went on a hike this week!  The weather had been nasty all days, except for the one we hiked.  What a treat!

Little Miss ‘V’ as a Christmas tree!

Cute Comment

We attended a birthday party yesterday.  Upon returning home, DH asked the boys how if they had fun.

R’s reply: "Yes, and Satan was not at the party."

Good to know!

Donated:

Getting Developed:
6. Six disposable cameras the boys got for Christmas

I am a few weeks away from completing Sonlight Core B.  I decided to wait until September to begin Core C.  Since Core ‘C’ is targeted for ages 5-7, I want ‘R’ to have a better opportunity to grasp it.  He will be 4.5 years, and with a little modification, he should be OK.  ‘A’ should fit right in.

So, what to do between March and September?  I have decided to do a couple of Unit Studies.  I asked the boys what they wanted to learn about and they decided they want to learn about "the body" and "sharks".

We will also work on Bible Verse memorization and writing letters and numbers.

Add all the fun field trips, hikes, and playdates we can do in Spring and Summer and we should be good to go!

The Charlotte Mason Blog Carnival is now up and running on Simply Charlotte Mason! I love this website and I love Charlotte Mason.  Enjoy what others share on their blogs about her method.

Taking advantage of this great weather, the boys and I went on a hike.  It was such a great day for it!

Here we are at the beginning…

‘A’ being the leader (his favorite place to be)…

The warm up for the hike.  Throwing rocks…

Exploring "caves"…

‘A’ loves to climb…

Pretending to be panthers…

More rock climbing…

Hooray, ‘R’!  That was tough!

More "cave" exploration…

Our first break, AKA "picnic"…

They are taking turns "rescuing" each other…

More rock climbing…
Yay, A”!  You did it!!

Our second "picnic"…

‘A’ helped ‘R’ climb the big rock on the way back down.  I was halfway pleased he wanted to help his brother and halfway petrified that ‘R’s face was going to be implanted in the rock!
