We did the Puyallup!

We attended the Puyallup Fair Saturday with Grandma Julee and Grandpa Gary!  You could not have asked for better weather.  The Fair did not seem too crowded, either.  It was an ideal day… (Thanks, Dad, for the pictures.  They turnd out terrific!)

This is a picture of me and ‘A’ on the sky ride, overleooking the whole fair.

An aerial view of the fair…

This is called Mutton Busting.  Kids under the age of six try to ride a sheep for as long as they can.  It was pretty entertaining.  3 out of 4 kids backed out when they got on the sheep.  Did my boys participate?
Oh, no…they both have a pretty solid sense of self preservation.

RIDES….

RIDES…

AND MORE RIDES…

We were able to witness an incredible event.  A cow gave birth!  There was quite a crowd and I could not see anything, but we put the boys on our shoulders and they tried to tell us what was going on.  My Dad was able to get these pictures by holding his camera up high over his head.

You cna see the man pulling the tethered calf out by his legs…

The boys first experience with cotton candy.  They both loved it!  DH had quite a project cleaning ‘R’ up, though…

Grandpa Gary and Grandma Julee..

The boys wre a little timid of ‘Plasterman’, so he came off of his perch and talked to the boys.  I thought that was pretty neat.

That’s one big pumpkin!!

See you next year.  YEE HAW!

Lesson 9/6/07

This was on odd day.  It all started out OK.  My friend, Liz, dropped off her boy, J, for a playdate.  J brought his Spiderman costume and ‘A’ was all over that!  Here is ‘R’ as Blanketman, ‘A’ as Spiderman, and ‘J’ as something I don’t recall.

Late morning, we went to another friend’s house and ‘A’ started having behavioral issues (he was focusing more on his friend’s toys than on his friend. ).  ‘R’ started to pick up on ‘A’s attitude and it just went downhill from there.  I decided to bring them home immediately and DH had a long talk with ‘A’ and a timeout in his room.  We will also be making an apology card for our friends.

In the afternoon, we went to Liz’s house so I could check her computer.  For some reason, her sentences on HSB all run together.  I thought it was a simple case of shift/return, but that was not it.  Then, we checked the forums and there was someone with a similar situation.  There was a piece of code to place in the CSS.  We did that, but it did not help.  So, I am stumped. If you have any ideas, let us know.  She is on a Mac, using the Safari browser.  You can see her blog in the link above.

My mom, ‘Ama’, came up late afternoon and stayed for dinner.  She lives closer to us now and can pop up anytime! I had not done a lesson yet, so we had a shorter school day with Ama here.  The boy’s attention span late afternoon is almost non-existent, but we got some items in.

Reading
We started ‘R’ with a simple lesson today from the ‘American Schoolhouse Reader’.  He recognized the upper and lower case ‘A’, and knew the letters and phonetic sounds for a, p,l,x, and n.  I helped him put together the words ‘apple’, ‘ax’, and ‘Ann’.

‘A’ read Bob Book volume 2, book 4 ‘The Swimmers’.  He got through half of it.

Fun Days

The boys love to color on the dry erase board.  They do this at least once every day.

Here is a picture of the boys and some of our friends.  ‘B’ is 10, and is a perfect pre-babysitter.  ‘C’ and ‘R’ spent a couple of hours with us.  They are great kids!
