Fun day in Seattle

Yesterday, I took the boys into Seattle to play.  We parked at the Seattle Center and met this pig in front of Channel 9/KCTW:

We walked to the Seattle Monorail.  Here is a picture of us waiting for the monorail.  The Space Needle is in the background. (Note the fleece jackets in August.  Grrr…)

We rode the monorail to Westlake Center and me tup with Dado and Antee Sara for lunch (I am disappointed I did not get a picture of all of us together.)  Dado is serving on jury duty downtown and we were lucky to get to meet him for lunch!

After lunch, we walked to Pike Place Market.  Here’s Antee Sara with the boys:

We enjoyed fresh made mini doughnuts…

…and listened to the fish guys sell their fish.

We hiked down the Pike Place Hillclimb…(and took the elevator back up!)

This is a picture of ‘A’ and ‘R’ in front of the water fountain by Westlake Center.  Please notice the look of panic on ‘A’s’ face, not fully trusting that I won’t make him walk trhough the fountain (there is a path you can walk through.)

The monorail trip back to Seattle Center…

The boys went on some rides at the ‘Fun Forest’ in Seattle Center…

…and we spent some time enjoying the International Fountain.  ‘A’ almost made it down to the fountain, but he decided not to.

Here’s some water a little more their speed.  On the way back to the car, we walked through a passageway that had half of the walkway layered in water, the other half was dry (this is done on purpose; kind of like a horizontal waterfall.)  We stomped through this and got nice and wet.  ‘A’ tripped and fell and got wet and ‘R’ decided to support his brother by laying down.

We spent two nights at the KOA Campground in Leavenworth.  This KOA is great for families because it is secure and safe.  Our site was by a big, grassy field, and the kids were able to run all they wanted.
Here is ‘A’ and ‘R’ playing in the sprinkler…

We played along the river.  Here is ‘W’ after she decided she had enough of that cold water!

April, A1, and A2, on the river

Roasting hot dogs, a requirement of camping…

This KOA has a playground for the kids to enjoy…

We went to Smallwood’s Harvest.  They have a little field of wood cut-outs for the kids to play with, a very nice mercantile, and a petting zoo.

Interesting to note: We had a bag of carrots to feed the animals.  I held a carrot for some chickens to peck at.  A couple pecked at one end, but they barely touched it.  Then, I went to a pen that had the funniest looking long-haired goat and a llama.  The goat smelled the carrot and would not eat it.  The llama smelled the carrot, grunted and me in disdain, and would not eat it.  I tried to get them to eat it a few times, but they wanted nothing to do with it.  I could tell, though, that they wanted to eat something.  So, I turned the carrot around and the llama ate it without complaint.  Picky, picky…

Leavenworth has a fantastic public community pool.  One third of it is a kiddie pool.  We spent a few hours playing here…

‘R’ loved playing in the pool, but got a little sleepy and decided to take a break…

‘A1’ and ‘A’ playing in the fountain

Success!  Finally, after four visits to this pool, ‘A’ is no longer afraid of the big mushroom waterfall!

After the girl’s weekend, I had one day to unpack, and pack for a camping trip.  I took the boys and two girlfriends and their kids to Leavenworth for two nights.

On the way there, we decided to go on a little field trip and stopped in a little town called Cashmere.  They make ‘Aplets and Cotlets’ here.  We all went on a factory tour and had a bunch of samples.

‘A’, ‘R’, and ‘W’ waiting to go on the tour…

April and her hair net.  (Ah, the power of the camera…)

This is hot Cotlet mix that is poured from a vat and weighed into wooden trays for cooling and hardening.

Kim and ‘W’

The cooled mixture is sprinkled with a food starch that keeps the powdered sugar from being absorbed into the candy.  After it is sprinkled with food starch it goes into a cutting machine where it is cut into bite size pieces and coated in powdered sugar.  (You can kind of see the cutting and sugar process in the mirror above the machine).

The factory workers take the APlets and Cotlets (and many other flavors) and sort them into boxes.  The boxes are them shrink wrapped for sales and gifts.

Girl’s Weekend

Attention: We interrupt our homeschool for some very importtant down time.  DH headed to Creationfest Northwest for five days, Ama spent the weekend house hunting with the boys (she sold her condo and bought one within 48 hours), and I went to Lake Chelan with a wonderful group of women, only one who I knew ahead of time.

DH cam back a whole other race fom all the sun…the boys had a blast finding a house for their grandma, and I got way too little sleep and had way too much fun.  Here are my highlights in pictures…

This was taken on the deck of the house we rented.  It was in Orondo, close to the river and pool, and perfect for our group. (L to R: Heidi, Dawn, Terri, Darcy, Cher, Kris, Jen, Me, Tara, Erica;sorry if there are misspellings)

Me, Darcy, and my good friend (and sorority sister), Heidi…

Don’t get mad for me posting this, Heidi, I am in a swimsuit too! She’s reading the newest HP book; I am reading the first one).

Me and Dawn.  We went to a pub for dinner and ended up staying and dancing until 2AM.  It had been such a long time since I have danced.  I realize I need to dance more.
"Funny" story-As we were dancing, someone, (decidedly male), "tooted" and ended up clearing the dance floor.  The pub staff and band said that had never happened before.  It was a doozy…
