Tiptoenthrutulips

Today, my friend and I took our boys to see the tulip fields.  We were a little concerned for the weather, because it was raining hard, but we hoped for the best.

Upon arrival, the skies were overcast, but it never rained while we were there!  We had a terrific time walking the fields and we even went on a tractor rider (a definite highlight for the boys.)

Happy Easter!

What a glorious day to celebrate!  We had sun all morning and most of the day.   I attended the early service with my sister in law my two nieces, and SIL’s dad.  For second service, my mom, aunt, uncle, cousin, father in law, and mother in law joined us.  DH played guitar for the worship sessions, and I served in A and R’s class during second service.

Here are the boys singing "Dontcha know that Jesus died".

We had a potluck brunch at our house after.

Dado and Dada (Grandma and Grandpa)

Auntie Yaya and cousin K

"Ant-ee S" and Dado coloring eggs with the boys.

My best friend, Michelle, gave me this nest last year.  It is a real nest with a single egg in it.  I used it as a part of my centerpiece.

78 Degrees!!

What a gorgeous day!  I put the boys in the stroller and walked to/from church for our Bible Study.  Upon returning home, I put on a tank and skirt and the boys went into shorts.  We spent the rest of the day playing outside, planting some flowers, and soaking up as much sun as possible.

Here are the boys in a worship session…

Lesson 4/5/07

Fingerplay
"The Stories Jesus Told" and
"If You Believe in Jesus"

Bible Story
Matthew 22:2-3, 8-10
John 2:13-16
Children’s Bible- The story of the dinner guests
and, Jesus was angry and cleared the temple

Devotional Activity
Psalm 75:1 "Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks."
We read a story and thought about things, people, experiences, we were thankful for.
‘A’ said: "I  am thankful for a guy in heaven who came to this earth and died on the cross.  Jesus!"
‘A’ said: "I am thankful for sleeping in tent and eating s’mores"
‘R’ said: "Place where we go for martial arts"
(There were more, but I remember these).

Letter Activity
The boys practiced writing the letter ‘U’. (Sorry, no pic.)

We also thought up words that began with the letter ‘V’:
A: vat, vein, violin, vine, van
Me: violet

Bible Activity
I had the boys act out the Bible story.  They set the table for a feast and invited their stuffed animals.

Dramatic Play
We practiced proper etiquette while in "God’s house":  walk quietly, speak softly, pray with eyes closed and hands together, greet others, treat the Bible gently, and we sang, "Jesus Love the Little Children"

Color Activity
We looked through a magazine and pointed out all items that were Black.

(Sorry, no pics…)

A had advanced from white to yellow stripe and now to yellow belt for martial arts.

To acoomplish this, he:

-recited the 10 commandments

-performed turn one and turn two

-performed a ste/downward block/reverse punch combination

-break a (doctored) board

Lesson 4/4/07

Fingerplay
"The Stories Jesus Told"

Bible Story
Luke 20:9-16
Children’s Bible: The story of the tenants who killed the landlord’s son

Active Exploration
I set out a bunch of items on the table and had the boys look at them.  Then, I had them close their eyes and I took one item away and rearranged them.  The boys had to guess which item I took.  They did not do well with this.  So, I took an item away without rearranging them.  A did very well with this.  R got one right (I think).

Letter Activity
Hide and Seek ‘U’

Color Activity
I asked ‘A’ what two colors make purple.  He correctly answered ‘blue and red’.  I asked them what items are purple.  ‘A’ said grapes, and ‘R’ said grape juice.  We could not think of other items that are purple, so we looked it up on ‘Enchanted Learning’.  The boys pasted the items and colored them.

I love this!

This is becoming a common occurence in our household.  I catch my oldest "reading" to my youngest.  Here they are in their bedroom reading, "Going on a Bear Hunt"

Lesson 4/3/07

Fingerplay
"The Stories Jesus Told"

Bible Story
Luke 15:4-7
Luke 15:11-19
Luke 15:20-24
Children’s Bible: The lost sheep, The prodigal son

Dramatic Play
I hid cotton ball "sheep" and the boys were the ‘shepherds’ and found them.  The first time, they picked them up.  The second time, they had to balance them on a spoon and carry them back to the "pen" (table).

Letter Activity
The boys traced the letter ‘U’ on a flashcard with their fingers.
They also glued lentils onto paper in the shape of a ‘U’

Math Activity
We played online ‘Deal or No Deal’
I traced the boys feet and cut them out.  We took turns measuring items with the feet.  The carpet measures 16 A feet and 17 R feet.  The table measures 7 R feet and 6 A feet.

Art Activity
I drew a house, path, and rocks, trees, etc. on the side of the path.  The boys had to copy what I did.

Bible Activity
We did this activity while driving to martial arts.  We role played on the topic of forgiveness.  I gave a scenario that included an ‘offender’ who asked for forgiveness.  The kids took turns with each scenario, saying "I forgive you."  The boys LOVED THIS!  I ran through all the scenarios I could think of, but they still wanted more.

So, I gave the boys the chance to think up scenarios.  My favorite was from A:  "so mom, what if I went in an hid all your jewelry and forgot where it was, would you forgive me if I said I was sorry?"

Luke 12:16-21
Children’s Bible: The story of the rich man who did not love God.
Luke 8:4-8
Children’s Bible: The farner sowed his seed.  Some prospered; some failed.

Math Activity
I made two "barns", a small one and a larger one.  I place 13 cars in one barn, and had the boys count them.  They then transfered the cars to the large barn and added 6 cars to fill the barn, totalong 19 cars.  I then had the boys count those. (‘A’ can; ‘R’ mimics)

Letter Activity
I had the boys circle ‘R’s

The boys quizzed each other on letters:
