"This Little King"

Bible Story
2 Kings 23:1-4
Children’s Bible:  The story of King Josiah

Devotional Activity
Matthew 6:24 "No one can serve two masters"
We read a story that accompanied this verse.  We talked about who our master, ruler and king is.
We read this verse six times and reviewed:
Mark 16:15
Exodus 20:12
Philippians 4:13

Letter Activity
I placed red yarn on the floor in the ‘N’ shape.  The boys had to walk around it without touching it and say the ‘n’ sound.

Bible Activity
The boys had to follow my directions, one at a time:
-draw two circles at the top of the page (to represent Josiah’s eyes)
-draw a square in the middle of the page (I assisted both boys with this; represents the Bible)
-draw a smile at the bottom of the page (represents Josiah telling others to follow God’s Word.)

Music
Played and sang, "Oh, Israel Turn Back to God"

I also introduced to them, the "Star Spangled Banner"

Read Aloud
"Ramona’s Great Day" by Beverly Cleary (in "The World Treasury of Children’s Literature")

P.E.
‘A’ received a DVD of martial arts.  Here they are following it:

"This Little King"

Bible Story
2 Kings 18:3-7
Children’s Bible: The story of King Hezekiah

Art Activity
I took part of the "castle" from the previous post and had the boys color the pieces.  They went from "castle turrets" into "King’s crowns".  Here are the boys wearing their crowns with an air of mighty power (note hands on hips) worthy of a King…

Letter Activity
Hide and Seek ‘N’.  ‘A’ was very disappointed that he missed as many as he did.  I told him he could try again later.

Bible Activity
The boys wore their crowns and pretended to be King Hezekiah.  They acted out the following:
-smashing idols
-sang praise songs, like ‘God is so Good’
-opened a "letter and looked scared
-ran to the "temple"
-knelt down and prayed to God to protect him from Assyria

Music
Played and sang, "Oh, Israel Turn Back to God"

Lesson 12/19/06

"This Little King"

Bible Story
2 Chronicles 24:1-4, 13, 17-18
Children’s Bible-Joash fixed the temple.

Active Exploration
This is a picture that I took for Halloween.  Our church had a ‘Harvest Fest’ and I decorated the car for "Trunk or Treat".  I created a "castle" and my boys were the knights.  (Why am I posting this now?  Read on…)

(The back of my minivan…Boys keeping warm and not guarding the castle!!)

(The "knights" that were to guard the castle…)

OK, fast foward to today…

I took a wall of the ‘castle’ that I had stored away, and voila!, turned it into the Lord’s temple!  I added some "cracks" to the temple to represent the direpair the temple was in during Joash’s reign.  In the Bible story, Joash had repaired the temple and destroyed all the idols that were in the temple.
I made a paste out of cornmeal and warm water and had the boys spackle the paste over the cracks to fix the temple.

Letter Activity
‘A’ practiced writing the letter ‘N’.  ‘R’ practiced holding a pen and "writing"

Math Activity
The boys played ‘Fishy Count’ online math game at Primarygames.com

Music
Played and sang to "Oh, Israel Turn Back to God"

Lesson 12/18/06

Fingerplay
"Miracles"

Bible Story
2 Kings 6:8-10, 15-17
Children’s Bible-Elisha watches the angels

Devotional Activity
1 John 3:18 "My little children, let us not not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth."
We read a story that accompanied this verse and talked about what loving in deed and in truth means.
(To love in deed means that we show our love by the things we do.  To love in truth means that we show our love the way God tells us to in His Word.)

Letter Activity
The boys traced the letter ‘M’ with their fingers on the flashcard.

Bible Activity
We read scriptures about angels:
Psalms 103:20-21
Hebrews 1:14
Psalms 91:11-12
Revelation 19:9-10
We learned that God created the angels, like He created us.
We should never pray to or worship angels.
God’s angels obey God and do His will.
God’s angels are His helpers and He sends them to watch over us and help us.

"Miracles"

Bible Story
2 Kings 5:1-3, 9-10, 14-15
Children’s Bible: Naaman was healed of leprosy

Letter Activity
Hide and Seek ‘M’

Bible Activity
I gave the boys one direction at a time:
1. Draw circles at the top of the page (represents sores)
2. Draw a wavy line in the middle of the page (a river)
3. Draw a smile at the bottom of the page.
This represents how Naaman had sores on his body.  ELisha told Naaman to wash in the river, and God healed him.

Children’s Bible: Story where the oil kept flowing for the woman in need of money

Dramatic Play
I measured one cup water and added yellow food color to represent ‘oil’.  The boys got to practice pouring the ‘oil’ into smaller containers.  I introduced the concept of 1/2 and 1/4.

Letter Activity
The boys glued Cheerios on the letter ‘M’.

Almost back!

Hi everyone!

After five days of no electricity, (we ran a generator, so we had heat, the fridge, and a couple of lights0, DH said ‘enough’ and booked us into a hotel.  We spent two nights at the Westin, then got a call from our neighbor that the electricity was back.  We have decided to enjoy one more night in the hotel and all its amenities before heading home.  I hope to get back to our regular routine next week.

Thanks for your prayers and well wishes.  We really appreciate it!

The Seattle area is gearing up for a massive wind storm.  I will probably lose power and am not sure when it will come back up.  Will be in touch as soon as I can.

Our Christmas Tree

We have the prettiest Christmas tree we have ever owned!  DH and I have been together 16 years and we both agree that this is the nicest to date.  Pictures do not do it justice, but here you go!

Lesson 12/13/06

Today, I hired a sitter (the best sitter ever…) to watch the boys while I took myself to a matinee and did some Christmas shopping.  She was their teacher today.  Not only did she teach this lesson, they also baked a cake, and made big, stuffed construction paper star ornaments.  She always brings a craft for the boys.  Last Sunday, this is what they made.  I was only able to make it last about 12 hours, before they insisted on breaking into it!

Letter Activity
Miss Laura placed a large letter ‘M’ in red yarn on the floor and had the boys take their stuffed animals and walk around it, saying ‘mmmmm’.

Bible Activity
They acted out the story of Elijah being taken to heaven.
