Snow Days

Well, we were pummeled with snow while driving home.  What should have been an hour drive, turned into a five hour adventure.  The town 15 minutes from us had about a foot of snow.  When we got home, we were bummed to only have a dusting!  Oh well, there is hope that we will get some tonight.  Here is what we have now:

We spent five days on the Oregon coast for Thanksgiving.  Grandpa ‘A’ joined us.  We had a fair share of rain, but there were some lovely sun spots as well.  We did some walking, alot of reading, and all over relaxing.

Lesson 11/29/06

Fingerplay

“David Learns to Lead”

Bible story

2 Samuel 18:9-10

Children's Bible: The story of Absalom

Math Activity

I drew a tree with a branch.  The boys were to cut a piece of yarn into multiple pieces (representing Absalom's hair that got caught in the tree).  They then had to arrange the pieces from longest to shortest.  I assisted 'R' with the cutting, but 'A' did everything on his own.

Letter Activity

The boys practiced writing the letter 'L/l”

Lesson 11/28/06

Fingerplay

“David Learns to Lead”

Bible Story

2 Samuel 12:7-10

Children's Bible: God forgave David

Devotional Activity

Matthew 5:16 “Let your light shime before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

We read a story about how our good is a light for God and an example for others.

We talked about how it is not always easy to let our light shine for Jesus, but that it is important.

We repeated Matthew 5:16 three times

We also reviewed:

Proverbs 15:1

Matthew 5:9

Colossians 3:20

We prayed and asked God to shine the light of His truth into our hearts, and asked Him to give us grace to obey Him so that His light will shine out to others.

Letter Activity

The boys glued macaroni on the letter 'L'

Bible Activity

We talked about how important it is for men to respect women, and for husbands to honor their wives.  I had the boys take their stuffed animals and pretend they were girls.  The boys named them “Hannah” and “Anna”. I had them act out the following scenarios”

-opening the door for them

-holding their coat open for them

-waiting to go second

-introducing the woman first

-waiting for a woman to be seated first

-push in her chair for her

(can you imagine how precious this was?)

Lesson 11/24/06

Fingerplay

“David Learns to Lead”

Bible story

2 Samuel 12:7-10

Children's Bible: David sinned

Active Exploration

When I said something good, like, “sharing, thanking God, or hugging”, the boys jumped up and down and said, “Yeah, that's good!”

When I said something bad, like “hitting your brother, sneaking candy, or taking a toy form someone else”, the boys had to kneel face down and say, “no, that's bad”.

Letter activity

Hide and Seek 'L'

Bible Activity

I did not get a picture of this, but the boys drew based on my directions, given one at a time:

-Draw an oval on the left side of the paper (represents a crown)

-Write the word “No” on the right side of the page.

-Draw a sad face (King David's face)

-Draw an arrow from the word to the face.

(This represents how Nathan told King David that he had done something wrong.)

Lesson 11/23/06

Fingerplay

“David Learns to Lead”

Bible Story

2 Samuel 6:12-15

Children's Bible:  God's ark is returned to God's people

Letter Activity

We were on vacation, staying at a rented home, and found the Jenga game.  We used these pieces to make the letter 'L'.  The boys really enjoyed this, and spent a good amount of time making other letters as well.

Bible Activity

We acted out the procession to celebrate God's ark.  The boys carried a puzzle box (the ark) throughout the house, singing, “God is so Good”, and  “If you are Happy and You Know it”.

Lesson 11/21/06

Fingerplay

“David Learns to Lead”

Bible Story

2 Samuel 2:4-7

Children's Bible: David becomes King

Dramatic Play

I played King David.  The boys are my subjects and must obey me.  I gave them directions to obey.  Here they are with their stuffed animals on their heads (it was pajama day this day!)

Letter Activity

We studied the 'L' flashcard, and visited the Starfall site for the letter 'L'

Bible Activity

Count on Me.  I did not get a picture, but the boys drew “diamonds' in each square and counted by two (only I can tell they are diamonds :))

Music

Listened and sang to “David”

If anyone is willing to part with any or all of this, please let me know.  We can discuss payment offline.  Thanks!

Lesson 11/20/06

Fingerplay: “David will be king”

Bible Story

1 Samuel 26:7-12

Children's Bible- Story where David save Saul from being killed by David's friend

Devotional Activity

Psalm 34:13 “Keep your tongue from evil.”

We read a story about Missy and her school friend (Sally) meeting a new girl in class.  Sally decides to say mean things and act mean toward the new girl.  Missy learned from her mother that the Bible says, “Keep your tongue from evil”, and talkeda bout what that meant.  Missy talked to Sally the next day, and they were both kind to the new girl.

We repeated this verse five times, and also reviewed:

John 3:16

Mark 16:15

Exodus 20:12

Philippians 4:13

John 14:6

Letter activity

I had 'A' try to write the letter 'K'.  He is unable to do a legible 'K' at this time.  I had him do dot-to-to 'K' for a while, but he is still unable to write one on his own.  Like he says, “maybe when I am four, I can do it…”

Bible Activity

We acted out the Bible story today.  We all took turns being David, David's friend, and the sleeping Saul.
