On our first night, we were able to meet up with some friends of ours from North Bend, (although they live in Redding, CA. now). Linda had texted me and wanted to visit with us in Sacramento the night before their flight to Maui. I had another commitment that night but asked how long they were going to be on Maui. Turns out their last night would be our first night! So, we decided to meet for dinner on Maui!
It was a special night where my two worlds collided and my Washington/Cali friends dined together…
David, Linda, me, Crystal, A, R, Eric, and David…at Leilani’s

My dinner. Ahi poke and ceviche with taro chips. Yum!

Eric and the boys!

I have a dear friend who is currently living in Colorado. She and her pastor husband, Reb, are both Christian speakers and authors. She just released a new book full of short stories. They are precious to read and learn from. I cry every time I hear the first story, and the one that inspired the title of the book, “Kiss the Other Hand”. You can find it here on Amazon.
We enjoyed a wonderful, leisurely breakfast before she had to head for the airport. Love you Bev. Hope to see you in June.

This fun run started off what was one of the most active Sundays in family history. We joined Shanti and Chris and their five kids, and Elyse and her two kids, for a morning of kid’s runs and then the five miler…
Elyse ran with her little girl in quarter mile, then with her son in the half mile. Our ‘R’ also ran the half mile, along with 4/5 of Shanti and Chris’s kids. The chicken gave an incentive that any kid who beat his time would win $100 and a years supply of beef. No one has beat him yet!
Look who decided to join me for the 5 mile! ‘A’ did really well on the 5k (3.1 mile) and was pushing to join me for the 5 mile. He did amazing, ran the whole thing, and I think would have made better time had he been with a stronger runner…

This run is touted as “the most beautiful and challenging five miles you will ever run.” There is some truth to that. It is beautiful; running through an amazing neighborhood with gorgeous homes and gardens, then into a large nature park. It is also challenging, with 4 or five hills to climb…
‘A’ takes on the first hill with gusto..

Going off road in the park. We ran about 1.5 miles on dirt and gravel. Not ‘A’s favorite, but he persevered…

Getting ready to take on “The Beast”…

Final hill. Still going strong…

Yay! Done!!

After the run, we fed the homeless group we take care of once a month, then I went to a birthday party for my friend Bev, THEN we met up with our small group for the rest of the night. Like I said, active day…

May 2nd was the National Day of Prayer. The boys and I joined Eric and Crystal to attend the prayer breakfast at William Jessup University. We ended up seated toward the back, but fortunately they had large screens to help us watch the speakers…
WJU President Dr. John Jackson introduced the event.

Finally! Breakfast!! It was a buffet. The boys loved getting their own food. ‘R’ asked how many doughnuts he could have…

I wish I caught a better picture. This is retired WJU President Bryce Jessup. His father is university founder William Jessup.

The prayers begin…
First prayer was by State Senator Jim Nielsen. He prayed for our government.

2nd speaker was by the Dr. Merle Sweitzer, Retired Captain of the Sacramento Sheriff Department. He prayed for the public safety personnel.

3rd speaker was Colonel Kevin Cavanaugh of Beale Air Force Base. He prayed for our military.

4th speaker, Kelly Caldwell, on air personality for the nation radio station KLOVE. She prayed for the media.

5th speaker: Bob Reeve, CFO of Reeve-Knight Construction. He was the general contractor for the WJU expansion project. He said a prayer for the business community.

6th speaker: Dr. Shelly Hoover, Principal of a local middle school. She prayed over our schools.

7th speaker: Too blurry, and I did not write the info down. I am pretty sure that this is a pastor of a local church who prayed for the church community. I feel bad I am not recognizing him properly…

8th speaker: Brian Hass, Youth Pastor for a local church. He prayed for families and youth.

9th speaker: Rev. Joan Smith, Area Director for Teen Challenge. She prayed for the less advantaged.

Keynote speaker. We were blessed to hear the words of Francis Chan, one of our family’s favorite pastors and authors.

This morning was spent in prayer with good friends. It does not get better than this!
